Got several reports coming in from Samsung Galaxy S i9000 users in the Philippines that they've gotten the Android 2.2 Froyo update already. So I took the Galaxy S out of storage and tried out the update using Samsung Kies. Had a hard time updating the handset as Kies doesn't seem to be able to detect the unit. The much awaited Omnia i900 from Samsung (see specs here) was released in the Philippines yesterday. While everybody is getting frustrated with the supposed Globe iPhone 3G pricing, the Samsung Omnia will definitely be a formidable alternative to the former. The rumored new Samsung i8510 that tows in an 8-megapixel camera and a 16GB internal storage becomes official. This new Samsung i8510 phone will be named Innovate or Innov8. I reckon that the Samsung i8510 is positioned against the Nokia N95 while the Omnia is targetted as an iPhone alternative.
