Two US-based satellite internet providers are expected to launch in the Philippines this year, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Amazon may launch its satellite internet service, called Project Kuiper (also known as Amazon LEO), in the Philippines as early as this year, according to Henry Aguda. Project Kuiper uses low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide internet access, especially in areas with limited or no connection. Like Starlink, the service aims to use a network of satellites to deliver internet directly to users on the ground. Globe Telecom has officially partnered with Starlink to bring Direct to Cell (DTC) satellite service to the Philippines, making it the first telco in Southeast Asia to offer this breakthrough technology.
