Globe ramps up 1GB/day or 3GB/month Fair Usage Policy

Recently, Globe has been sending out reminders via SMS to some of their subscribers about the Fair Usage Policy that they are enforcing. A number of our readers have sent us reports about the daily bandwidth allocation and throttling regulation.

The FUP basically provides an allowance of 1GB per day or 3GB per month, whichever comes first. Once the allocation is used up, subscribers will moved to their 2G network. That means you still get “unlimited” mobile internet but it will be slower.

This FUP applies to all surfing promos and data plans for Globe postpaid and Tattoo Lifestyle Sticks.

It does not cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (Php5/15 minutes) and those using PowerSurf.

This mechanism is designed to reduce the speeds of only the 3% of users who are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic in Globe’s network.

You can read the full details of Globe’s Fair Use Policy here.

  1. Walang kwenta talaga Globe. Parang nag unli-dial up connection ka nito.

  2. “3% of users who are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic ”
only 1GB a day is Large volume? Thats just a few youtube videos a day!

The average person is streaming video, streaming music, updating and downloading apps on smart phones/computer updates etc that far reaches over 1GB a day

Globe should be ashamed, the government needs to step in and force regulate the telcos

    • my average usage is 5-7gb per month. im a heavy user always on LTE/H+. impact i have to charge my s4 for 2-3 times a day. exaggerated naman yung few youtube pra ubusin ang 1gb in a day. ok lang sken ung capping as long as bibilis ung serbisyo nla esp sa gabi na mabagal tlga.

    • pro sucker tlga yung 3gb per month.

    • @Ryan, nice try do you work for globe? Only 7GB a month?

Average data used on a 1080p 5min youtube video is 62MB Thats for only 5 min! So a 1 hour movie a day, or a few hour movies, plus music, software updates , email attachments and more is far over 1GB a day.

      I rarely ever torrent and I average 250 to 300GB a month

    • not connected with them. 1080p will take yrs to load even on LTE. sabi nga ni phonebuddy ma tamang connection pra mag DL ng 1080p.

    • I think its fine although those who were used to streaming videos using their phones will greatly be affected. Again, what 3 gigs can do varies by use. 3 gigs of audio streaming is more than enough. 3 gigs of document sharing is too much. 3 gigs of downloading apps is just enough.

    • I use about 3GB to 5GB of data a night. I download a lot of stuff off the net not just for personal use but also for work related bullshit. I pay my fucking bills right in order use the “UNLIMITED” LTE connection. ABUSADO MUCH? I think not! People use it differently NOT JUST FOR THAT FACEBOOK shit. Now I know this retarded Telecom company is not for people who do serious work online. Target market yata nila mga OLOL. I’ll stay away from this provider after I’m done with my stupid contract.

UNLIMITED NGA EH…

PERO KAHIT ALAM NATIN NA NILOLOKO LANG TYO NG GLOBE, UNLIMITED PA DIN ANG PAGMAMAHAL NATIN SA KANILA. (FAIR USE POLICY: WE HATE GLOBE DURING HOLIDAYS, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND WEEKDAYS FROM 12:00AM TO 11:59PM)

In two years time, magkakaroon din for sure ng 4K screen sa phone.

    • Blazing fast to get your money and leave the dust for you to choke on……

Nakapagdownload lang ako modern warfare recently at around 1.6gb in less than one hout tapos YouTube streaming after at hq quality na walang buffering at hspd lang.

  7. This doesn’t affect Prepaid users? 800MB a day is a riot.

pano ka maka-download ng Games na more than 1GB like Asphalth: Airbourne 8.

    • After you’ve consumed 1.5 GB on smart, you’re downgraded to HSPA. On Globe, you’re on 2G/EDGE.

  11. All globe subscriber will shift na siguro hahahhahaa……kasi ganito policy nila…

    • 1.5GB/month lng ang Smart. ask them

I just read it, it’s 1000 pesos no limit no data cap designed for the heavy user.

      Sarap lumipat.

  12. Do it!

  14. That’s why its called unlimited because you have the freewill to browse and the reason we get LTE is because of the speed. I think it’s unreasonable if they are going to downgrade the connection. It means that the LTE is not reliable and not stable enough to handle the traffic. Might as well not offer LTE if you can’t give your customers what is due to them. It’s not called LTE, it’s called a rip off. It’s like getting an expensive Nike shoes with the quality of a replica.

    • No, it’s like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street. :p

Unlike Globe, magiging 2g speed haha :)) Pero teka, may naka experience ma ba talaga dito ng throttled connection ng Globe? Panakot lang yata yan e lol :)) ma try nga hehe

    • Speedtest.net

toda lang I checked, halos di mabuksan ang app.

  17. I normally consume at least 1GB per day because I work from home. Ang masakit, I have to pay, without delay, 1150php a month for that!!!

  18. goodluck na lang sa globe.. yan na number 1 reason bakit maraming nag subscribe sa inyo.. di mas ok pa si smart… atleast dun pag naka LTE ka.. pag naabot mo na yung 1.5gig.. magiging 3g speed ka na lang which is much better..

    • Fortunately, Smart’s FUP doesn’t apply on their prepaid users. I’ve downloaded 150 GB in just a day.

  19. Ahaha! News today is that Korea is on their drawing board for the 5G connection that can download 800mb HD movie in 1 second, pero dito sa Pinas, anong nangyayari na? Yan ang effect ng duopoly eh!

  20. I am smart user and a heavy user. I just downloaded attack on titan (2g) and justice league war (3.5g) yesterday, without any problem. Siguro nga binaba lang nila from LTE to 3g lang.

  21. ung mga nagrereklamo zila ung mga abusado.. hehehe

pero i would suggest sa globe n they should put different capping in different plan..

  22. “It does not cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (Php5/15 minutes)”

Meron cap na 1GB/day or 3GB/month para sa postpaid users, pero it DOES NOT COVER regular browsing rates. So you mean sa Globe, naka-postpaid ka and yet you’ll subscribe pa sa promos? Aren’t promos supposedly for prepaid users?

Sa prepaid, I can still keep my old number basta hindi totally mag-expire ang load. Free phones?

Pwedeng lumipat at any time to Smart ng walang termination fee. Buti nga ngayon, may bundles na ang Smart at Globe na available for postpaid users kasi kahit papaano, nasusulit yung bayad namin.

  24. Never ever will I use a Globe sim again. Smart, ’till death do us part.

  25. Kung gagamit ba ako ng Smart LTE Sim na prepaid tapos paregister ng 50 na LTE, may cap ba? if merong cap, magtotally disconnected na ba ako kung nareach na ung limit? or bababa lng s 2G?

    same din ba sa globe?

    • Smart doesn’t impose cap on prepaid accounts. I was able to download 150 GB in a day using my Smart Prepaid LTE sim.

    • unitl now ba wala padin cap? kasi sabi sa website nila hanggang dec 31 2013 lng daw ung unlimited nila. pakiprove me wrong tnxxxx

    • They extended it until March 31st as per their Customer Service Rep.

    • The one you’re talking about is for postpaid accounts only.

    • SMART’s WiMAX and canopies are now moved to the PLDT myBRO brand. That canopy of yours uses Smart’s HSPA+ network to connect to the internet (which is the same for phones connected to their network). I think 15 GB per month is a lot better than 3 GB.

  26. FYI on postpaid, Globe has a cap of 3 GB whilst Smart has 1.5 GB. On Globe, you’re downgraded to 2G SPEEDS. On Smart, you can still have HSPA+. About prepaid on the other hand, Globe has a cap of 800 MB/day whilst Smart does NOT (unlimited LTE, that is). After reading this, I think you’ve decided who’s the better choice. Live more.

    • VERY TRUE!!!
now i know what to do at the end of my contract.
At Smart, pay only P1,000 for unlisurf (intended for heavy user, no limit or capping). kung alam ko lng na sa walang capping sa Freedom Plan ng Smart, sana nag Smart nlng ako.

      http://go.smart.com.ph/internet/article/view/342/

    • And take note, postpaid plan of Smart ngayon e “UNLI” LTE extended until march 31, hopefully gawin ng forever ng Smart! Globe Bulok!

GLOBE suxx to the core !!!

  28. fyi. Smart LTE (prepaid) does not have quota/fair usage policy [50/day] and more STABLE,STRONG connection :)

  29. I kinda understand the 1gb per day but 3gb in a month?! Thats crazy! Hope smart takes advantage of this and not follow suit to attract customers.

  30. Im a Globe Postpaid subscriber with Unlidata as combo.

    Thank you in advance.

    • I would say it’s the phone. Iphone is more on network hungry than androids. My officemate has the same problem. GS4 vs. Iphone 5, both on globe network @ the same location (4g location). I can multitask and do a lot of online stuff, surf, stream, download stuff while he is trying to pull up a youtube video.

This might be with the phone, yet again it can also be with the network. But you can take into consideration the phones cores, you are comparing a dual core(Iphone 5s) to a quad core (note 2)even with just a 3g connection it will outperform the Iphone. Android phones (most of them) can perform better since they go through a lot of innovations, just check out Samsung’s number of models for just one line or series of phone. I can say for sure that my phone works very well even if I have just 2 bars of signal on LTE than with an Iphone that has full bar on LTE.

      80% it’s the phone, 20 % other stuff

About the topic, Yes Globe suxx, it’s not called Unlimited if there is a cap, they should change their plan to “LIMITED”

  32. 3Gig A month?? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? Business suicide? So much for UnliData bullshitz!

I can live with 1gb per day, pero 3gb per month?? Kulang ata ng 0 dun sa 3

  34. I’m smart postpaid subscriber… I just availed my retention plan last Jan 21 and I upgraded my plan from unlidata plan 1500 to All in plan 1800. Currently I subscribe to LTE unli 995 and for the past 4 days I already consumed 2.24 Gig And I haven’t experiencing throttling down to 3G. And when I renewed my contract with smart I did not sign document regarding FUP unlike when I first sign my unli data plan 1500 (this is 3g) two years ago, they apply FUP with limit of 1.5 gig per month. But now I did not sign any agreement for monthly usage limit.

  38. I both have unlidata subscriptions from both network (plan 999 with Globe and Unlidata 2000 sa Smart ) and basing from this, I have come to know the ff facts.

1.GLOBE HAS 800MB DATA CAP PERDAY WHILE SMART HAS 1.5 GB PERMONTH. YUGA ARE YOU SURE GLOBE CAPS 3GB PER DAY ? did you really do your research on this.?
Both network dowgrades your speed once you reach this.
PERO ITO ANG KAIBAHAN. sa GLOBE EVERYDAY PAG NAHIT MO LIMIT THE FF DAY OK NA. SA SMART NAMAN DISADVANTAGE SA USER KASI EX 3 DAYS P LNG UBOS MO NA 1.5Gb NEXT MONTH NA YAN MAGIGING FULL THROTTLE.

Andaming comment ng comment ng walang basis.
    LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS DANGEROUS.
    DONT BE BIASED. BE FACTUAL.

    • I have made an erroneous statement.
*YUGA ARE YOU SURE GLOBE CAPS DATA TO 3GB* PER MONTH po dapat.

    • I agree. We know there may be problems with the service but sana make sure to show both sides of the coin. Responsible blogging please.

    • I’m one of the people that got the message and I checked the website.

      it is 1gb a day and/or 3 gb a month

then you get bumped to 2G speed

problem is the link has been taken down.I’m not sure why.

  39. Kalokohan, define Unlimited… Globe you suck!

  40. I seldom use data connection…but tama lang naman ata na sabihin nila na unli internet ka, but it didn’t say unli fast speed ka (or baka meron sinabing unli LTE…I don’t know) You still have connection yun lang kukupad lang, then kinabukasan ok na ulit. Hinde ba ganun?

  41. I tried to open the link but page not found.. Seems Globe had already removed it.. Haha

  42. Dear Yugatech, please clarify where you saw the “3GB/month” data cap. This might be misleading a lot of your readers here. I’ve been reading up on Globe’s FUP (wap.globe.com.ph/fairusepolicyfaqs) and Smart’s FUP (Google: SMART Fair Use Policy) and could not find your stated “3GB/month Fair Usage Policy.”

Also, it might be worth mentioning in your blog that for both Globe and Smart, the ‘unlimited’ pertains to ‘mobile browsing’ and not to ‘unlimited download’ – because that is a totally different story and Both companies are getting flak for the FUP, which was really imposed by the NTC. I ask you to please add more clarity to differentiate this on your blog post and avoid misleading our fellow mobile data consumers.

    • TRUE! it is totally different to say unli browsing to unli download…

I’m a globe subscriber for 2 yrs.. and now my area upgraded to LTE na. I can download for 1-2 movies a day even before the notification until now. hmmm… or maybe it is not yet imposed to my account hahahah o well..

    • It has been removed. I was able to access the website the day I received the message and it really showed the 3gb/month limit.

      I know wimax 512kpbs (795 php) is 1gb a day, 15gb a month
      and wimax 1mbps (995 php) is 3gb a day, 25 gb a month

Don’t bother with their DSL. Ironically it’s prone to signal disturbances than Wimax.

  44. Smart will always be faster than Globe. Smart many sites scattered all over the country, they even have a list of HSPA and LTE sites at their website.

Globe doesn’t provide such information to the public. Globe is not present in other parts of the country. No signal in the farms of Bicol.

  45. Globe may be having second thoughts on implementing this based on the initial response. Also the URL is inaccessible. HAHA!

    “Oooops!

Looks like the page you are trying to view does not exist; it may have been removed from the site, or perhaps you mistyped the URL.
You can try checking the navigation bar above or the links below to find what you’re searching for. “

    • Once I got the message I spent like 2 hours berating them on it. They can’t just put up that limit since when I signed the contract for my plan, there wasn’t anything that pertained to any FUP at all.

I have a copy of my plan contract here and unless if they made a new contract and forged my signature, I’m not buying their BS.

Furthermore, most android phones have DATA monitoring. Just with FB alone, you’ll hit 3GB in a week especially if you are fond of looking at the pictures of your friends.

That’s not mentioning VoIP from Line, WeChat, Viber etc.
