I know this would not be a huge surprise since Sun Cellular is already a member of the PLDT Group but just saw a couple of days ago that Sun Cellular has upgraded its network’s signal strength. It might have seem routinary but the instructions were a bit telling — select “Smart” in the network settings.
The instructions were stated like so (primarily in Tagalog).
1. Pumunta sa PHONE SETTINGS.
2. Pumunta sa NETWORK SELECTION or OPERATOR SELECTION.
The instructions were pretty interesting and gives us a hint that Sun Cellular is already riding on Smart’s network.
Has anyone tried this in their area and made it to work? Perhaps those who didn’t have good signal from Sun Cellular before.
I have PLDT smart features the10pesos per call PlDT to Smart is this also applicable to sun since Smart and Sun already merge

It worked here in Angeles, Pampanga. Chose Smart network and now my Sun prepaid signal is always 3 to 4 bars. Thanks a lot!
Any one tried accessing Data roaming from SUN does would it cost me money if I turn it on? domestic roaming for 3g. What do you guys think.

omg ako lumilitaw SUN Sun and Globe piliin ko man alin sa dalawa yung Sun na maliit error huhuhuh wala pa naman akong signal sa Sun sa area namin…. grrrr postpaid pa naman ako…
PLEASE HELP ME.. DI AKO MAKAGAMIT NG SUN MOBILE INET.. DI KO MAHANAP ANG SUN NETWORK EH.. NAGING SMART 3G XA KAYA DI AKO MAKA ACCESS SA SUN.. PANO B 23
SAAMIN NASA HARAP NAMIN CELLSITE NG SMART PAANO MAIROAM ANG SMART TO SUN??
TRIED THIS IN LANAO DEL SUR. SUN HAD NO SIGNAL THERE BUY YES IT WORKS. AT FIRST WE WONDERED WHY SUN/SMART APPEARED ON OUR SCREENS. I JUST EXPERIMENTED ONMY PHONE SETTINGS..CHOSE SMART. FROM THEN I WAS ABLE TO USE MY SUN NA.
I have a Sun postpaid plan and 3G works perfectly in Cebu. But when we went to Puerto Princesa last month, wala atang signal ang Sun Cellular kasi No Service ang nakalagay sa phone ko. Tried following the instructions indicated above at naging SMART 3G signal ko in Puerto Princesa. When we got back in Cebu, naging SUN 3G na uli. Ayaw na gumana if I choose Smart. I think this only works in areas na walang signal ang Sun o kaya super hina.
Prepaid Sun. 2G
Gumana sya samin ng wife ko, 1 day nga lang, then nagrereturn sya ng message na check operator messages… we tried to repeat the instructions again but it returned as no network access.. now it is worst than ever… sobrang hirap ng sumagap ng signal sa loob ng bahay..
it’s not working on my postpaid sim. :( Do you guys know is there anyway I can use it?
sa mga probinsya lang siguro to gumagana at maaaring gamitin since Sun signal here in Metro and Mega Manila is almost ok.
uhm sinubukan ko ito ngyon as i read. sun user ako, sinunod ko lang ang mga instructions dito, akala ko hindi ko mapapasok yung smart then nagulat ako nung pag refresh ko sa iphone ko naka check yung smart then i switch to automatic. mukhang ok naman, di na masyadong inconsistent yung 3g ko. thanks sa help!!
Doesn’t work in Makati and Parañaque though. After searching for Networks and Smart is selected, it says “Unable to connect to network at this time. Please try again later.”
Gumana sya sakin RIZAL area, and take note, 3G network pa ng SMART and RUNS VERY SMOOTHLY! I even tried it on my broadband and it works like charm :D
Sa tingin ko hindi pwde sa post-paid yan, dahil SUN locked siya, At hindi maseselect as Manual ang SMART network.. i tried many times but it always says ” Can’t access network ” :) But anyway, Keep up the Good work..
It returns “Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network”.
I have post-paid SUN.
marumi talaga ang strategy ni globe.. know their history…
i’m from davao city, sun postpaid subscriber here, but can’t connect to smart network on either 2G or 3G.
not sure if implemented xa sa postpaid or kelangan pa i-activate … dunno..
GLOBE KAYA MO YAN BOTO PARIN AKO SAYO!!! :))
Sinakop na nila lahat. Hehehe!
I’m from Trento, Agusan del Sur, just tried a while ago and was successful. I’m very happy now because since last August 2011 could not use my SUN number. My screen displayed SMART GOLD, but no problem for me as long as I can use my SUN number with cheaper rate abroad. It’s really good news, thanks.
Keep it up para mawalan ng marketshare ang Globe… Saya!!! :-)
I think it’s fine, with the current network modernization of Smart, they can accommodate much more subscriber now. I think it’s fair for all. AMEN?
PLDT monopoly :(
wawa naman ang Globe
Hopefully, hindi naman lugi ang smart subscribers nito sa network congestion, and sun cellular cellsites should also be utilized by Smart subscribers.
@chinitoguy, that’s how unfair Globe and Ayala is para sa atin. Now we know!
This is good news! I hope Smart can also ride on Sun’s network. Why? Sun has installed cellsites on Ayala Land-controlled malls and residential areas. Ayala Land is the sister company of PLDT’s nemesis Globe Telecom. For those who are not aware, Smart has weak and sometimes no signal at Ayala Malls and Ayala Land projects like Glorietta, Greenbelt, Trinoma, Serendra, etc.
that only applies in far provinces i guess…it’s still sun in manila but my friends told me that they got the same thing when they went to south and/or north..
since mahina both sun and smart signal sa area namin, no-go pa rin
Ahhh, no wonder the signal of Sun in my area is already as good as smart. Calls are not terrible anymore and i can hear the caller clearly.
this must be a very good news for those places who had no sun signal…:) gonna try this in our barrio….:)
not working on Blackberry of Sun :)
Here in Dasma Cavite, I’m using Nokia C2-02 dual-sim… Sun’s signal is alot stronger than Smart.
So, no need to ride on Smart’s signal…
Sun can ride on its own signal strength.
Working here in cavite. Using dual sim x1-01. Smart gold signal. Nice. =)
yey! working for me here in laguna.
it’s working 2 Sun and Smart with R on signal strength indicator, I think R stands for Roaming…

I’m from Cavite, I tried and successful. My screen displayed Smart even I have a signal using SUN.
i think it appears “No Access†when sun signal is available, and switching it to Smart network
“No Accessâ€
Not working here in Metro Manila. When I chose Smart, access was not granted. I had to choose Sun to gain network access.
I have a friend from Butuan City. It’s located in Northern Mindanao. He told me about this yesterday and according to him, he can use his sun sim but gets signal from smart by changing the settings as stated above.
Yes, he can call using his sun sim and with better coverage. Instead of
“SUN” written on top of his screen, it is changed to “SMART”, still fully functional. Hmmmm. What does this mean?
Tried it just now. My phone returned a “No Access” error.
yes actually, MVP’s PLDT acquired a majority share of Digital Telecom(in which digitel and sun is under) now his Smart network runs Sun Cell.
