Smart Bro reverts Plan 999 back to 2Mbps

Now that was quick — barely 5 days into the plan downgrade of Smart Bro (just the canopy-type) from 2Mbps to just 1 Mbps (effective June 1, 2011), they reversed it back to 2Mbps again.

This is what the page looked like about 2 (June 1 – 5) days ago:

This is what it states now:

Don’t know why the sudden changes. It definitely wasn’t just a typo or website copy error (since they added the phrase effective June 1, 2011).

Not sure if the changes are also reflected in their printed copy of the service agreement (contract) though. At least it’s back to the same old offering.

Update: I am told by Smart Public Affairs that only new subs are affected by the changes.

  1. Thanks for that quick update, Abe. I was starting to lose faith in our telcos. I’m not going to hide that I’m still looking for better service, specially in our area. I’ve applied for various internet plans from about all the providers, with “line-of-sight” issues making my applications a no-go. SmartBRO Canopy is the only thing that keeps me alive at home.

  2. Yuga,

They made a sudden changes because PLDT boosts up their plan Xcel into 5Mbps from 3Mbps. I guess Smart is just boosting up their marketing plan to cater more BRO subs particularly in far flung areas beyond Telephone cables. Of course ayaw nila patatalo sa 10Mbps but sooner or later, Canopy type BRO will replaced by LTE’s since meron nang 10Mbps.

    • One more thing pa pala, kung cost-cutting, bakit may LTE na sila? And also mayron ibang subs na matagal na dito eh “up to 7Mbps” ang speed c/o forum in TPC na yung ibang posts eh umaabot lagpas sa 2Mbps.

  3. Smart Broken! kahit 2mbps pa yan di aabot speed nio jan gang 512kbps lang or about 60kbps actual download speed nio. . . pag umulan pa umasa pa kayo na babagal pa yan . . . :(

    • sa akin lumalagpas pa nga ng 3mbps, tsaka pag umuulan naman o bumabagyo, umaabot pa nga ng 4mbps, what i mean is ung experience mo eh di applicable sa lahat, so wag mong siraan, kc kami
dito sa sta. ana manila eh satisfied nman sa smartbro.

    • COOL! sana ang amin ganun din. Plan 999 po ba ang sa inyo?

  4. I smell smartbro puppets here? i felt na bumagal na nga un connection ko even ibalik nila sa 2mbps.. lolz eto masasabi ko sa smart BOOO!!

  5. Looks like thy aren’t sure what about their PLANS. Actually, PLDT, the allies of Smart has create changes with their DSL for SME package somewhat .5 mbps per plan. Let say the smallBizlite plan before was 2.5 mbps now it was upgraded to 3 mbps flat with the same rate maybe they want to chase the bandwith offered by Globe.

  6. What the speed… im having a 900bytes/min download speed… :(

  7. Still a long way to go for both Smart and Globe. Their promise is like a cloud without rain.

  8. Yes BRO! Sana instead na “Quantity first before Quality” maging “Superb-quality for quantity”.

  9. “Update: I am told by Smart Public Affairs that only new subs are affected by the changes.”

So new subscribers are going to have speeds of up to 1mbps only? That’s not great marketing right there. LOLz!

    • Tama. Ekek lang yung pagbalik ng speed sa 2mbps. Bagsak sa 1mbps pa rin yan. Poor LOYAL subscribers.

  11. Hallelujah, we finally got the fastest speeds we’ve ever had out here in Bukidnon. From 384kbps (not even closer to 1mbps) they finally upgraded to 2mbps. The speed while not quite that dizzying, is a very welcome sigh of relief from the nightmare that was 50KB/s (not even that, the average speed was 5-15KB/s, reaching only 50KB/s long past midnight).

The current 250KB/s is awesome. And to think they kept making excuses about our antenna/canopy location just weeks ago when we complained about having 10KB/s most of the time.

They did it after Globe Wimax started sniffing out their old subscribers lol. We were actually already thinking of switching. We may still yet if they don’t stick to the speeds they promised. We’re into our second contract with smartbro and if this turns out to be a temporary thing, we’re switching. Contract or no contract.

    • Oh and a little background: Smartbro was the first and only internet provider in our area for more or less 2 years. Hence why our complaints didn’t get that much attention. Now they have several competitors expanding out here and people are switching over in droves, LOL. Their reputation here hasn’t been very good at all. So yeah, thank you Globe actually, for providing the kick in the ass that Smart needed.

  12. The Comparison Chart still states that the speed is 1Mbps for the Canopy. Fishy, fishy.

  13. I would become an Angry Bird since I am one of the subscribers who can reach more than 1Mbps.

Will monitor closely since Smart recently “reverted” it back again to 2Mbps but the Comparison Chart (http://smart.com.ph/Smart_Revamp/ExternalPages/Bro/BroComparison.html) still says 1Mbps as of June 12, 2011:

    • This is bad, the specifications & the description are so misleading.

On time naman ako magbayad, kahit isang feedback wala ako natanggap kung kailan tentative maibabalik service. Tattoo gamit ko ngayon para makapag-online.
