BluPass: Bluray rentals Samsung snatched from Philips

Tradeport and Samsung Philippines launched this joint partnership for a Netflix-like, Bluray rental service last week and calls it BluePass.

TradePort basically owns all the 500+ Bluray titles which it rents out to all Samsung users (that is if you bought a Samsung Bluray player or an LCD TV combo).

First time I heard about a plan like this was several months ago. According to a source, it was actually Philips that’s supposed to be the partner for BluPass. We’re not sure why it eventually landed on Samsung’s lap but the service sure does make for a compelling reason to buy a Bluray player.

This exclusive membership ranges from Php1,490 for 6 months up to Php3,990 for one year. The card is actually free when you buy Samsung products (the idea is that you’ll like the service to pay for the renewals in the future).

See the full story on BluPass here.

  1. I like the idea and will support this. I have shared it already on FB and Twitter.

  2. Who even has Blu-ray players? I mean don’t think we’ve already catch up with that tech here.

    • There is a fair number of PS3 owners here. Plus bundling it with a purchase of a Samsung player/TV is a good way to install a good customer base.

I’m one of those PS3 owners and I would love to be able to get a BluPass if only they made it available to the general public. I wouldn’t want to buy another player just for this.

    • what abe said. this is a good reason to get one, if you have an HDTV of course

    • Dunno. Even if you have a HDTV, if it’s just natively 720p or doesn’t go higher than 59/60Hz, Bluray tech is useless/doesn’t offer anything more than standard DVDs would.

  3. Well if you have a Multi Media Hard disc which can play MKV (bluray)& h.264, are available in the market, then you will surely enjoy this blupass.
