According to Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the first website was born in August 6, 1991 making it 20 years old yesterday (I missed the bday bash), when I was still in high school and learning how to use Lotus 123 and Sidekick.
In 1996, our access to the college campus internet was limited to something like 20 hours (or was it 40?) per semester so the only thing I was able to do was send out emails via Pine until I found out about Yahoo.
But it wasn’t until sometime in 1999 when I created my first website from scratch — a personal website with a resume which I submitted to trabaho.com. Then there was Geocities, Angelfire and Hypermart. It was actually in Hypermart where the first YugaTech website was started (in 2000 and I think you can still see it in the Web Archive).
I didn’t like chatting but mIRC was hugely popular. I only saw the need for it when we were downloading MP3s.
Ok, it’s now your turn to share how you first met the Interwebs, and contributed to it.
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest-running technology site in the Philippines. Originally established in October 2002, the site was transformed into a full-fledged technology platform in 2005.

Wow has it been 20 years already?!? Anyway, I can still remember the first time I have surfed the interwebs, a friend of mine accompanied me to this computer shop near our school.
This shop as i can remember used to connect their modem to a single computer just to be able to serve internet to his customers, this was in 1997. In 1998 I was able to have own internet via subscription to pacific net.
I also frequent Angelfire, Geocities and the likes to beautify my personal site, that is when I was introduced to html, gifs was also the in thing before or just anything that animate is cool then until flash came…and the rest as they say is history..
Now I’m currently working as a lead flash developer for us-based arts company…

I got so addicted in chatting…. that was 1998 I think…
By then, I installed a modem in my pc…my cozin gave me an hacked internet account…there, I donwloaded hundred of music at MIRC…
ICQ days…I also have this “FREE” edsamail…hotmails…yahoo messenger….
I learned flash 5…and do some animations…(still under macromedia back then) use it as my college presentation…(i NEVER use powerpoint)…and I was able to make a static website to animated using flash…and many got amaze with what I have done…website of my former clan…PPC (playboy n Playgirl club hahaha MMB 25 is our room before at YM)…hay! those were the days! :-D

Well for me, late bloomer ako eh. I just had to create an email address to send out my resume to prospective employees way back in 2001.
Then that email address was as well used to subscribe to some porn stuff. Amazing then just how easy it was to access porn if you want! hahahaha

Hi. You could at least give credit to the owner of the image. :-) Especially when there’s a big © stamped on it.

First use the internet during the latter part of 2000. Main purpose for doing that was to get cheats and walkthroughs from http://gamefaqs.com for my PS games. Discovered hotmail, yahoo, and edsamail after that. Created my own personal website at homestead.com during the early part of 2001. and eventually learned HTML.
By 2006, I was experimenting with WordPress. Although I have created a few websites for some friends and their companies, and for my own religious affiliation, I wasn’t able to maintain my own blog and has stop doing so since 2008.
Daily accessing the Internet these days for communication with a lot of contacts, continuously maintaining the websites I’ve mentioned above, playing Ikariam, doing virtual meetings, visiting tech sites like yugatech, and buying things you don’t usually get here in our country.
BTW, although I am receiving snail mails every once in a while, the last time I send one was on 2001. Can’t believe that was 10 years ago… ;-)

The first time I was able to surf the net was back in 1998 when I was still in Elementary. At first I went to internet shops but my father decided to install a dial-up at our home. I used to prank people on mIRC.

mine dates back in 2003 when i was in elementary
and my first use of the internet is to site some cool pictures, research to things i don’t know and stuffs.
I remember always playing on “miniclip” and then played “runescape”.
I also download my MP3’s using peer-to-peer programs like “limewire”.
I also experienced getting tons of virus because of the internet and learned how to avoid and fix my computer. :bd
the internet pretty much affect my whole life. :>

I first used the internet back in ’97, my second year in College. My biggest contribution back then was making Digitel 11,000 pesos richer for our first month subscription, LOL. Damn you “Diablo (Blizzard)”! I also made my first e-mail then. I think it was lef_k****@****.***. Then after I graduated in 2001 settled in with my registered e-mail here for professional reasons.

ako din… i cud remember well back in 2001 how i applied for an EON card thru online!
back to topic, alala ko before sa bacolod, 1998 14.4something (kbps pa yun? i forgot) tapos anjan ang 28.8 modem at nauso yung realAudio/realVideo.. wala pang RealPlayer nun. ang mahal pa ng internet sa mga cafes, 40.00 an hour.. mga mayayaman lng ang makakapag-internet that time. sa school namin we have 20hrs free use of internet sa library! Mozcom and Weblinq pa ang ISP sa bacolod that time!.
i had my first personal homepage at geocities. Before texting became a trend… MIRC was the king of chat then later ICQ, YM, others followed. Usong-uso pa samen sa mga students ang mga porn sites, pagkatapos ng check email, sa porn site nagbababad hehehe…
biggest contribution ng net saken that time yung email… i got to email my friends and relatives abroad without the 30days wait like that of snailmail heheh…
amazed tlga ako sa technology that time… tapos ngayun, ang gulo na ng buhay coz its like we’re more attached to these things now, nawala na yung “personal” relationship sa mga loved-ones natin! #justsharing

August 6, 1991.. whew!! I was in Grade 6 at that time hehehe..
Kidding aside, I started to use the internet way back ’98 or ’99 when our school give us free internet access in our laboratory. I used Alamak (browser-based chat) for chatting, send email using Yahoo! Mail and Lycos Mail, search for my assignments on Yahoo! Search, Altavista, Hotbot (correct me if i’m wrong) and 37.com, and play games at Gamesville.com.

Those were the days…I can still remember I used to access the Internet thru Fidonet BBS then by 1993 the Philippines got connected to the Internet and from gopher access I got excited using mosaic browser. Back then Internet access is very limited in our university (Ateneo de Cagayan de Oro)I used to slipped inside the computer lab just to get a few extra time on the Internet. After graduating college in 1995 I opened one of the first Internet Cafe in the Philippines here in CDO to get the public experience the Internet using a very expensive leased line from Cebu back then…
