Mapúa Education Group has launched what it describes as the Philippines’ first group-wide AI fluency strategy, rolling out a new academic framework across its schools starting Academic Year 2026–2027.

The initiative covers Mapúa University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, and Mapúa Malayan Digital College, and was developed in collaboration with Arizona State University.
According to Mapúa, the strategy is designed to go beyond basic AI literacy by embedding artificial intelligence into teaching, assessment, and student training across different disciplines. The school said the goal is to prepare students to work with AI tools responsibly and apply them in real-world professional settings.
Mapúa said the new framework will be built around four layers: AI for all, AI in the discipline, AI for learning, and advanced AI pathways. These are intended to give students foundational knowledge on generative AI and responsible use, while also integrating AI applications into specific fields such as engineering, business, technology, and science.
The group said it will also introduce a teaching model called “HyFlip,” which shifts some learning activities to AI-supported asynchronous sessions, allowing classroom time to focus on discussions, mentoring, and collaborative work.
As part of the rollout, Mapúa said it is also updating its assessment methods to address academic integrity and AI use in coursework. Under the new framework, assignments may be classified as AI-prohibited, AI-assisted, or AI-integrated, depending on how AI tools are allowed to be used.
The strategy also includes faculty training through a new AI Teaching Commons, which will serve as a development hub for instructors, as well as AI-related microcredentials that students and alumni can earn as part of their degree or professional upskilling.
Mapúa President and CEO Dodjie Maestrecampo said the move reflects the school group’s effort to align higher education with changing industry needs as artificial intelligence becomes more widely used across different professions.
Earlier this year, Mapúa also announced the rollout of ChatGPT Edu across the group through a partnership with OpenAI.
