Yesterday, we reported that ABS-CBN will launch today its Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service. Now the TV network has announced that its ABS-CBN TVplus, also known as “The Mahiwagang Black Box”, is now available for purchase.

The ABS-CBN TVplus will offer free-to-air digital channels including ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Sports and Action and four exclusive channels:

• dzMM Teleradyo – an all-day news and current affairs channel
• Yey – an all-day kids entertainment channel
• Knowledge Channel – an informative and educational channel
• CineMo – an all-day movie channel

Below are the areas where signal or frequency is available:

Metro Manila
Rizal
Cavite
Laguna
Bulacan
Pampanga
Nueva Ecija
Tarlac
Pangasinan
Benguet
Metro Cebu

The box is offered at a one-time payment price of Php2,500 with no monthly fee. It comes with an ABS-CBN Mobile Prepaid Sim Card with Php50 load which can be used for calls, texts, and other mobile services.

It can be ordered online through www.abs-cbnstore.com with free delivery in areas where signal is available. Or at selected appliance, hardware and IT stores including SM Appliance Center, 2GO Express, Solid Service Center, VillMan Computers, and Silicon Valley.

Hindi naman cable channels ipapalabas ng tv plus mga free to air tv lang na digital ang signal..bakit naman nila ipapalabas ang cable channels ng libre? Hindi sya nagcocompete kay cignal kaya wag mo icompare ang channels na narereceive ng cignal mo.. tvplus is intended dun s mga walang cable tv subscription na gusto makapanood ng malinaw

Nakikita ko ito ginagamit ng mga FX driver. In fact channel 7 and channel 5 ang pinapanuod nila pero malinaw din. I think digital na din ang ibang network bago pa maglabas ng ganito.

Prior to launching the black box in our place we had a very good tv reception in all channels but when they introduced the black box abs cbn channel 3 ceased to exist on our screen. We can`t help but wonder if this is just a mere coincidence? So we have decided to switch to other networks and we have come to realized that they have more to offer, in terms of entertainment, sports and news and public affairs.

sir jeff, ask ko lang po..anong dapat gawin kapag nag appear sa abs cbn yung “e16 service is currently scrambled”? dun lang po ito nag aappear sa mga extra channels nila like knowledge channels, cinemo, yey, etc.

And bakit po kaya kapag nagloload yung mga channnels na nabanggit eh tumitigil..di ko tuloy magamit ung mga un =( may issue po ba ang signal? pero bakit ung ibang channels malinaw naman?

ibig sabihin ba nito Analog na yung output?

Nilaunch nila ng maaga dahil ang analog frequency channel nila ay below channel 6 which is madaling maapektuhan ang quality ng video.ito ang isa sa mga reasons kung bakit mahina ang ratings nila sa metro manila. .

Sina suggest ko na huwag niyo bilhin ang BLACK BOX na ito dahil walang itong HDMI PORT. RCA PORTS LANG ANG MERON ITO NA ANG MAXIMUM RESOLUTION AY 720 X 480. SO DI SYA FUTURE PROOF. Di ito pang HD TV. . So kung may mga networks na nag bro beoadcast ng HD, 480 parin ang maximum reaolution mo gamit ang tv box.

Understand that it is intended for older as well as new analog sets so it’s gotta be backward compatible to be uaseful for just about any analog tv sets (of the masses most especially). If you’re looking for a more speced up box this ‘aint for you. . . .don’t buy this for your 4k tv and perhaps at the very least if you already got hdtv you must be on cable and surely don’t need this either.

FYI sir, not all digital channels are broadcasting in HD. Most major tv networks are still on SD. May I suggest you get a cabletv subscription if you wish to have HD quality tv and HDMI connectivity. sir jet is correct in saying tv+ is intended for CRT TVs

Simplicitynice, what i mean di sya future proof since rca port lang sya. so after 2 years na halos lahat na nang network nag bo-broadcast ng HD, Pag gamit mo ng tv+ kahit HD broadcast ay SD parin ang quality coz RCA LANG ANG PORT NITO NA ANG KAYA I OUTPUT IS 480. SO KUNG TV MO IS 32+ MAKIKITA MO ANG KAIBAHAN.

naalala ko pa dati may mga nagbebenta lang nito ng 1.2-1.5k sna kinagat ko na pala. nagpalit lang ng pangalan, tumaas na rin presyo. oportunista talaga ang abs.

Porke sila ang unang nag announce sa public to use digital officially(though di naman sila ang first), tinaas ng sobra yung presyo. shifting to digital does not mean excellent viewing. A lot of factors will affect this. Theres no need to buy a device like this if the tv alone can pick digital signal. With the widespread and potential use of digital tv na sa pinas, sooner it will become the standard and theres no need to buy converter or set top boxes.

Exactly, analog TV sets will soon become obsolete. NTC placed a deadline, which is Dec 31 2019. There is a TV manufacturer (I forgot the brand) that sells TV’s that already have digital tuners built-in. Pero, given the ‘sachet economy’ in the Philippines, many consumers would buy this device at the moment before buying a brand new TV.

Anyway, if you’re a cable subscriber, this won’t be necessary.

Your right. Most of Filipinos cant afford to buy a new one most especially sa mga led and lcd na mahal. So the only choice is to buy a converter.

Even most LEDs today do not have digital TV tuners. I think Devant has TVs with digital TV tuner. Look at your LED TVs if it has built-in ‘ISDB-T receiver’. Otherwise, you need to either subscribe to a cable provider or buy a separate box to receive digital signal. So kahit may pambili ng LED TV at hindi nagpa-cable, the TV can’t receive digital signal (HD or SD).

From searching the net, according to NTC this will be a national shift from analog to digital, so eventally lahat ng channel should comply…mag start na ata ang shift ng 2015 onwards and there will be a cut off date when all analog broadcasts will be stopped na…

Digital TV is different from HD. They may broadcast in Digital TV, but they can still adapt the SD format until they are ready to go HD. As far as local content go, most of them are already being filmed in HD.

So, can you receive Digital TV signals with an ordinary antenna?
Yes, if you have a television set with built-in ISDB-T receivers.
No, for everything else. You need a set-top box that can receive ISDB-T signals from TV networks.

precisely no, bcoz ordinary antenna is in analog form yle this tvplus is in digital form already. it has a different signal.thats y this tvplus has its own antenna so that it can only take digital signals. the free to air ordinary antenna is an analog signal.

Antenna is antenna. As long as its dimensions are for a certain frequency(/ies), it will receive (or transmit) signals. All signals via radio (wireless communications) are analog. FYI

Does the box has a HDMI output? It appears that there are channels broadcasting in HD.

Also, I’m interested to see if CDR-King can find supplier that can also make these. I feel that the appropriate price for this is around 1K.

bsta yung headunit nyo mo pah video and audio in for rca cable then gamit na lang inverter or car lighter adapter. 12v lang po ang power input nya. tapos yung antenna naman nya mafnetic or kahit sa loob nyo na ng car ilagay ok pa din reception

im sure u don’t have more than 10 tv units in ur home. rca connection is hard to split but it can be possible. splitting this can carry 3 to 4 units of tv and also u have to consider the distance bet tv units coz the resistance of the signal will be disrupt if its to much far apart.

Yes. Other channels are available as long as they offer digital service as well.

“ABS-CBN DTT head Chinky Alcedo said other networks outside of the ABS-CBN Group can also be received by the box, but only if these networks are offering digital services.

“Our Mahiwagang Black Box can pick up the transmission of all free-to-air channels broadcasting digitally, so if they configure something that will disallow them to be received by our box, hindi ko masasagot ‘yan,” she told ABS-CBNnews.com when asked if other networks may choose not to transmit to ABS-CBN’s TVplus.”

ABS-CBN should ship 4G-enabled set-top boxes. This is a golden opportunity for them as first mover to take on multimedia content sales through a proprietary market. Just imagine the revenues from teleserye sales from this!
