DJI outs portable Mavic Pro Drone

Looks like DJI is taking on GoPro’s Karma with the unveiling of their new portable drone – the Mavic Pro.

One of the main features of the Mavic Pro is its size. Its arms can easily be folded with the propellers tucked away, making it small enough to fit inside a backpack. You can control it using its own controller that uses your smartphone as a display, or directly through your smartphone.

Features include a stabilized 4K camera, visual navigation system consisting of five cameras, GPS and GLONASS navigation systems, a pair of ultrasonic range finders, redundant sensors. The Mavic Pro also boasts 24 powerful computing cores, 4.3 mile (7 km) range and 27 minute flight time.

Going back to the camera, it has a resolution of 12 megapixel capable of recording 4K video at 30fps and full 1080p HD at 96fps, and shoot stills with Adobe DNG RAW support.

DJI is also introducing the DJI Goggles which can display an 85-degree view from the drone in full 1080p. It also has a built-in OcuSync, allowing it to receive video directly from Mavic Pro in the air and not through the controller to minimize lag. Unfortunately, it’s not included in the package.

The DJI Mavic Pro is now available for pre-order and will ship on October 15. It will also be available in mid-October at DJI’s three flagship stores in Shenzhen, Seoul and Hong Kong. It is priced at $999 with the remote controller included, and $749 without the remote controller. Additional Mavic Pro Intelligent Flight Batteries, on the other hand, costs $89 a piece.

There’s also the Mavic Pro Fly More Combo, which includes a Mavic Pro, two extra Intelligent Flight Batteries, extra propellers, a charging hub, an adapter, a car charger and a shoulder bag, for $1,299.
