Sony’s high-end PS4 “Neo” confirmed to launch

After hearing previous rumors that an updated PS4 (aka PlayStation 4.5) is about to be released, Sony confirmed that the speculations were true and there is indeed a higher-spec’d console slated to launch.

President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, was reported to have mentioned that the upcoming console will be targeted towards serious gamers as it would come in 4K TV sets and we don’t think the company is stopping there.

In addition to keeping up with its main rivals Microsoft and Nintendo, this is also probably their answer to today’s PC gaming rigs which are armed to the teeth with components for hardcore users.

Moreover, the CEO also told Financial Times that the console (codenamed “Neo”) will be more expensive that then current model. The release of this new PlayStation will not make the current generation obsolete as “it is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4.”

House also assures us that all games will still support the standard PS4 while a large majority, if not all, will also be compatible with the beefed up PlayStation.

That sounds like good news but don’t get too excited yet since it won’t make its launch at the E3 event on June 14. They still want to have time to work on it so that it would offer a grand experience for the user.

“We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety,” House added.

Although there’s no word on when it will be introduced, it’s still good news for hardcore gamers that there is finally an official word on the rumors and that a meaner PS4 is indeed on the way.
