0:00In the world of PCs, Colorful may not be
0:02as popular as other bigname brands such
0:04as Asus, Gigabyte, or even MSI. However,
0:08they do offer a wide variety of gaming
0:11PC parts, and compared to the big
0:12brands, they’re typically more
0:14affordable. The parts Colorful offers
0:16include motherboards, SSDs, but they’re
0:20more often associated with affordable
0:22graphics cards, at least from what I’ve
0:24seen in the Philippine market. But did
0:25you know Colorful isn’t just making PC
0:28components exclusively? They’ve also
0:30expanded their lineup by offering
0:32laptops. While their gaming laptops are
0:34more popular, the one we recently
0:36received is a more budget friendly model
0:38suited for everyday needs or even
0:40business use. The Colorful Rimbook L1
0:44with an affordable price tag is the
0:45Colorful Rimbook L1 something you should
0:48consider for your everyday needs. Well,
0:50I’m from Yugate and let’s find out in
0:52this review.
0:53[Music]
0:59Starting with the design, there’s not a
1:01lot going on with the colorful Rimbook
1:02L1. It’s a very minimalist looking
1:04laptop. After all, this isn’t one that’s
1:07meant for gaming. That means there’s no
1:09RGB lighting either. The deck lid is
1:12clean, as you can see here, featuring
1:14just chrome finish colorful logo smack
1:16dab in the middle. The lid itself is
1:18made out of hard plastic. It is quite
1:20scratch resistant and more importantly
1:22smudge resistant. The rest of the body
1:24appears to be made out of plastic too.
1:27It doesn’t have the most premium feel as
1:29compared to other laptops we’ve tried,
1:30but it is a budget friendly laptop after
1:32all. At the same time, the clean look
1:34helps it look a bit more professional.
1:37So, you can bring this to a meeting and
1:39they’ll look decent. Similar to the deck
1:41lid, the base is also made out of the
1:42same material. It’s not the smoothest
1:44feeling to the touch, but again, very
1:46smudge resistant. I specifically like
1:48how I didn’t have to wipe the laptop
1:50often just to keep it looking very neat
1:52and clean. As for the size, it’s quite
1:54big, specifically since it features a
1:5715.6 in display, which we’ll talk more
1:59about later on. But despite its size,
2:01it’s relatively portable. It only weighs
2:031.78 kg, making it quite light for a
2:06laptop of this size. However, it’s not
2:09exactly thin, measuring 17.9 mm thick
2:12when closed. So, it might be relatively
2:14thick, but the good news is that you do
2:17have a lot of ports at your disposal.
2:18The Rimbook L1 features three USBA
2:20ports, two USBC ports, and a 3.5 mm
2:23audio port. There’s no SD or micro SD
2:25slot, but considering you have multiple
2:27USB ports at your disposal, it’s easy to
2:29bring a dongle should you need to.
2:31What’s great about the Rimbook L1 is
2:33that the display can be opened up to a
2:35full
2:37180°. This allows you to use it in
2:40various forms or whatever you feel
2:42comfortable with. The hinge feels very
2:44solid and you can even open it with just
2:46one hand to get work done. The Rimbook
2:48L1 comes with a full-size keyboard. They
2:51are properly spaced out and the design
2:52of the keyboard somewhat reminds me of
2:54the ones found in older Asus laptops.
2:57The main difference between that, well,
2:59this one is not backlit. The keys feel
3:01nice and I didn’t make a lot of typing
3:03mistakes when I’m using it. However,
3:05they’re not exactly the most comfortable
3:06keyboard to use for extended periods of
3:08times. There’s not a lot of travel and
3:10your fingers can get tired after a while
3:12when you’re typing for more than 30
3:14minutes. As for the trackpad, it’s
3:16offset to the left to make it a bit more
3:18ergonomic. Palm rejection is decent when
3:20you’re typing, but what I’m more
3:22concerned about is the material used on
3:24the trackpad. It feels rough and doesn’t
3:27feel great when you’re gliding your
3:28finger over it. To be more specific, it
3:30sometimes feels like my finger is
3:32getting stuck when I’m using it. With
3:34that, I ended up using a wireless mouse
3:36most of the time instead of the trackpad
3:38because I didn’t really like how it
3:39felt. But as expected, there’s no
3:41special features on the trackpad either.
3:43Moving to the display, the colorful
3:45Rimbook L1 uses a 15.6 in display
3:48featuring an IPS panel with a 1080p
3:50resolution. What’s interesting about
3:52this is the aspect ratio. Unlike modern
3:54laptops that use mostly a 16×10 aspect
3:57ratio, this one still uses a 16×9 ratio.
4:00No high refresh rate either, capped at
4:02just 60 fps. Peak brightness is limited
4:05to 300 nits. It’s a very basic display
4:07and meant mainly for productivity
4:09purposes. While you can watch movies or
4:12videos on this laptops, the colors
4:14aren’t that great. It lacks the vibrant
4:15colors and deep blacks typically found
4:17on OLED and even higherend IPS panels.
4:20Since it’s limited to 60 fps, the
4:22animations aren’t that smooth either. If
4:24you’re someone who’s used to 120 Hz
4:26display, at the very least, you can
4:28easily tell the difference. With that,
4:30it’s not suited for playing games. For
4:32everyday use, though, it’s more than
4:34adequate. If you plan on just typing or
4:36working on Excel sheets, it gets the job
4:38done. The 300nit peak brightness is also
4:41enough if you’re outside. As for the
4:43speakers, they’re nothing to write home
4:44about either. They’re not the loudest,
4:46and the sound stage isn’t the best.
4:48However, it’s more than enough if you
4:50just want to chill to music while
4:51working. Still, you can always just pair
4:53your favorite Bluetooth headphones or
4:54just plug into the 3.5 mm audio port. I
4:57mean, it’s there right now. This being a
4:59business laptop, the colorful Rimbook L1
5:02does not come with a dedicated GPU.
5:04Instead, it only packs an Intel Core i5
5:0612450H processor for everything. Our
5:10review unit comes with 16 GB of RAM and
5:12512 GB of SSD storage. It also comes
5:15with Windows 11 Home Standard, but as
5:17you can see from the keyboard, there’s
5:18no co-pilot button here. The 12th gen
5:21Intel i5 processor is by no means slow,
5:23even compared to the today’s standards.
5:25You can easily handle Chrome with
5:26multiple tabs open, Spotify, Discord,
5:29and other productivity apps like
5:30Photoshop simultaneously. With that, you
5:32can easily get work done on this laptop
5:34and do so at a nice relaxing pace. Some
5:37of you might find SSD storage lacking,
5:39but if you don’t plan on playing a lot
5:40of games, it’s more than adequate. Even
5:43with our benchmarking apps and the Adobe
5:44editing software installed, which is
5:46Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere, it
5:48still had enough space for a game or
5:50two, depending on how big the game you
5:52have. Then again, it can’t really play
5:54games that well. I installed Genchin
5:56Impact on the Rimbook L1 and it can run
5:58the game. However, it doesn’t do so that
6:00smoothly. Even at the lowest graphics
6:02settings with just 60fps, you get the
6:05occasional frame rate drops even when
6:07you’re just out exploring the world.
6:08Worse yet, even when you’re just in one
6:10city, you already get frame rate drops.
6:12I could tell the laptop was struggling
6:14to run the game given how noisy the fans
6:16became. Subsequently, it also became
6:18noticeably hot to the touch. With that
6:20alone, I didn’t really bother trying to
6:22run other games on this laptop. Well,
6:24that’s unless you want me to install
6:26Command and Conquer General Zerr again.
6:28But of course, we also ran our usual
6:30benchmarks, and you can check out the
6:31scores on screen right now. They’re not
6:34the best, but they’re still decent
6:36altogether.
6:44The battery of the colorful Rimbook L1
6:46isn’t as big as other similarly sized
6:48laptops. It only packs a 50watth battery
6:50pack, but surprisingly lasts longer than
6:52I expected it to be. After using this to
6:54work for 1 hour, I only drained the
6:56battery from 100% to 80%. And for
6:59reference, I was connected to Wi-Fi
7:01running Chrome, Discord, and Spotify all
7:03at the same time. The battery drains
7:05faster when you’re using heavier apps
7:06like Lightroom or Photoshop, but again,
7:08that’s to be expected. And the same goes
7:10when you’re gaming. With that, it’s best
7:12to bring the 65 watt charger around with
7:14you just in case. It’s not a big charger
7:17and it won’t really take up a lot of
7:18space in your bag. Nothing really stands
7:21out about the colorful Rimbook L1. It’s
7:24a decent business or productivity laptop
7:26and it gets the job done. While you can
7:29play games on it, it won’t give you the
7:30best experience either. The same can be
7:32said about the display, speakers, and
7:34even the battery life. One thing that it
7:36does have going for it though is the
7:38price. At the time this video was
7:39recorded, the Rimbook L1 with the same
7:41specifications as our review unit
7:43retails for 9
7:46excluding tax. That’s roughly 23,000
7:49pesos or more or less 24 to 26,000 pesos
7:53with tax depending on the retailer. It’s
7:55a decent laptop to get. It’s more than
7:57adequate if you just need one for school
7:59or work and you want something with a
8:01larger screen over 14 in. So far, what
8:04do you think of the colorful Rimbook L1?
8:06Would it be your budget laptop choice of
8:09this year or would you consider
8:10something else? Whatever the case, share
