iPhone 3G priced at $199 Worldwide

The WWDC 2008 has finally concluded (slept thru it last night after a boring start) and Apple has finally announced a brand new iPhone 3G with GPS. New features are expected but Steve Jobs realized they can’t sell more until they cut the price in half — so now it’s just $199 (with 2-year contract!), worldwide, including the Philippines.

Coming out this July 2008, the iPhone 3G has GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, and EDGE capability.

The new iPhone 3G will come in two colors and two storage models — black, white, 8GB and 16GB. Still with just 2MP camera and there seems to be no front panel video camera for making 3G calls.

According to the Globe Telecom press release, the Apple iPhone 3G will be available to all post-paid and pre-paid subscribers. It could be as early as July or maybe as late as September of this year.

At $199, give or take 50% on taxes and tariffs, it will end up somewhere around Php13,500 a pop. Not bad, eh? The 16GB model goes for $299.

My guess is that Globe Telecom will offer iPhone 3G Post-Paid Plan that will include unlimited Globe Visibility service for an additional Php1,500 to Php2,000 a month. It will be a sweet deal.

Again, does that come with iTunes in the Philippines? What’s definite though is that the App Store will be available in the Philippines.

nice, but can it be used as a 3G modem? if it can be, i might consider this model as my next phone (whenever my K618i croaks its final adieu).

    ciao!

@Erin, i think App developers can create an application that will make the iPhone 3G a hotspot so you can share net connection via Wifi.

@ralph, Globe Telecom will exclusively sell the new iPhone 2.0

The price is so seductive… (Sorry for the shortage of words in my vocabulary :D )

@Pinoy Apostolic — yeah, actually I think it’s the cheap price that really made the news for the new iPhone.

    @kuya ric
3G is more flexible in terms of mobile devices (w/c is why it’s there instead of laptops). With this price, I just stopped considering a new Lens for my DSLR.
Steve Jobs just made my day.

I’m interested in buying one. but i’m concerned about the monopoly of globe on the phone. I’m planning to go back to US with this phone and i want to use it with my US number too (but i’m sure they had it simlocked.) Does anybody know how to address this?

so. mgkano po ung price nia?.. as in 35,000 tlgah?

  14. Gravatar Icon paoooo replied on Jun 12th, 2008 at 1:00 pm (14)

is the price in us dollars?

  15. Gravatar Icon gian replied on Jun 12th, 2008 at 6:23 pm (15)

actually sa us they sell 199 coz may monthly na dagdag sa payment nila na 10 dollars
dati monthly nila 60 dollars after paying 499
pero ngayun 70 dollars na babayaran after bilhin ung iphone ng 199. so times 24 kc 24 months or two years contract. kaya may ptong na 240 dollars kaya magiging 439 dollars for 8gb and 539 for 16gb.. ganun dn

I have a feeling that everyone would be owning and iPhone in the Philippines by the time it hits the stores. Now, that’s a downer.

you can’t just get the selling price of iphone3g in the US converted in Philippine Peso. the price offered which is $199 is with contract at At&t. just buy from globe but its too expensive. read my post and go to globe’s website all the infos are there.
