   My personal experience has been that these sort of programs can be quite profitable. However, they are only actually legal (at least in the USA where I live and the UK where I grew up) if there is a tangible product being sold. In other words, ‘gifting’ programs are forbidden under the laws of both countries. Much has been made in the courts of both countries about whether being ‘added to a mailing list’ makes them legal. The consensus from the court system seems to be that this does not constitute a product and is therefore illegal. However, if you change the program so that you are actually selling something such as an e-book with resale rights, the program becomes legal again in both of these countries.

   Also, Paypal has a very strong policy against these kind of programs and has benn closing a great many accounts and, of course, locking up all of the member’s funds. E-gold on the other hand does not have a problem with this kind of program, nor does Alertpay.
