HTC & Google teams up for Android Phone

Google’s Android OS will see its first commercial debut with the HTC Dream, in an effort to bring the open mobile OS to the general public. Question is, will it sell to the general public?

First, let’s look at the specs of this Android phone — touchscreen display with haptic feedback, full QWERTY keypad (that slides or swivels out). The rest of the specs are still a mystery and for now, this will be initially limited to T-Mobile in the United States.

The sweet deal here is basically the mobile OS and if tech pundits are saying that the success of the iPhone is all about the experience with the OS+phone, then Android may have a chance to crack that magic.

Again it also depends on how much application development is done to extend the functionality and features of the phone. As for the device, HTC is known for doing really high-end devices with over the top prices so we can’t really say that this model is targeted to the masses.

Then again, if the HTC Touch Diamond sold out 1 million units (price tag: Php42,000) in about 6 months, the HTC Dream has a good chance to match that number on its first year.
