HP Mini 1000 drops Via for Atom?

HP is introducing a new line of netbooks as an update to its Mininote 2133. This time the HP Mini Note 1000 drops the sluggish Via processor for an Intel Atom CPU.

Spotted on the homepage of the HP Shopping site, the Mini 1000 will start at $399.99 for the basic specs.

hp mini note

Intel Atom 1.6 GHz N270
8.9″ and 10.2″ display screen (1024×600 pixel)
512MB, 1GB or 2GB RAM
8GB/16GB SSD or 60GB HDD
WiFi 802.11 b/g
1.3MP webcam
Intel GMA950 integrated chip
3-cell batery
Windows XP or Linux

Will get it right this time? The Mininote 2133 has had a lot of negative reviews for its slow processor, heat dissipation and relative weight. The Mini 1000 will be lighter (about 2.25lbs) and thinner (les than 1 inch). Moving to Intel is a smart move as people are already regarding the Atom CPU as a standard. HP, however, dropped the screen resolution from 1280×768 pixels to 1024×600.

HP also featured a Vivienne Tam Edition in a recent fashion show sporting a flowery red design that costs $700 {via}.

I love the design. It’s sleek. It’s definitely a major consideration if I’ve decided to buy a netbook.

HP just rules on the design/sleekness department. The MSI Wind has still the best features for its price.

    good job HP. good job!

di kasi mabenta sa mga “geeks” dahil sa Via C7 procie, mas preferred nila ang Atom. forget the Via NANO, they’re dissapointed.

bibili ulit sana ako kaya lang nag-drop yung screen resolution, never mind. i’ll stick to my ASUS EEE PC although I am considering another netbook to have a spare for my robotic arm project

@manilenio - HP is making it cheaper so the aluminum is replaced by plastic.
