In a potentially landmark case, a Php1.2 Million copyright infringement suit was filed against print publication Manila Bulletin for illegally using and printing photos of professional photographer and blogger Anton Sheker.

Anton Sheker emails and points to a blatant copyright violation by a major news daily (guess which one). Read more about his story here “Major Daily Violates Photographer’s Copyright and Intellectual Property“.

I don’t regularly read the newspapers (print) but once in a while, I’d skim through some copies in the hopes of getting some scoop. Who would imagine I’d stumble upon yet another editorial lapse with Manila Bulletin.
If you have a copy of the June 16, 2007 (Monday) edition of Manila Bulletin, go over the Technews section on page D5. At the top right corner of the page, you will see a website feature for Parents Preview (www.parentspreview.com). What actually got my attention was the uncanny familiarity of the website screen shot. It does look like a domain parking landing page. Being in the domains and web hosting business for years, I can spot these type of sites from a mile away.
The online version of Philippine newspaper Manila Bulletin has re-designed their website.

Although the front page still sports the old site design, the inner pages and sections are already on the new layout. I think they’re preparing for Monday to make this final but the transistion wasn’t planned too well that the design leaked before they made formal announcements. Or, they completely forgot about the front-page altogether (which is so unlikely).
Anyhow, the new layout is a little better than the old one and less crowded. The ad fillers aren’t as annoying as the old ones too.
They could be waiting for midnight before doing the big switch. We’ll see.
Watch out for our interview (Pinoy.Tech.Blog) on Manila Bulletin tomorrow (Monday) in the Technology section for the print version and the online version.
This is my 3rd interview from Manila Bulletin, care of their resident tech blogger Annalyn Jusay. The very first one was for PinoyBlog, the second for my blog here at YugaTech and this upcoming one for PTB.
All the resident tech bloggers at PTB had a lot to say about our plans and long-term goals but I had to squeeze them all in one feature interview. Will post some of the “uncut” version once Manila Bulletin publishes our interview by Monday.
Anyway, grab a copy of MB on Monday if you can.
There’s another one coming up by I think it’s hush hush for now.
Update: Check the interview here.
Thanks to Annalyn Jusay for the short feature interview in Manila Bulletin’s Blog-O-Rama.
It’s now available in their online edition but I have to check if the print version was also published.
Update: The print version is more complete. Grab a copy now. ![]()
