PLDT DSL increases bandwidth allocation.

PLDT DSL, PLDT DSL, PLDT myDSL, PLDT DSL, PLDT myDSL

Looks like the stories are true. I just checked my PLDT DSL speed at home last night and I was averaging around 480Kbps. That means my previous 386Kbps connection now tops at 512Kbps. Here’s the supposed upgrade that was recently made by PLDT.

512Kbps / 256Kbps for plan 1995
768Kbps / 384Kbps for plan 2500
1mbps / 384Kbps for plan 3000

You can call them up at 171 to confirm this. Sweet deal, huh? :)

I’m supposed to be getting 768/384 but my dsl speed goes up to 1738/432 based on dslreports.com bandwidth tester. It rox!:b

    You are lucky.
I get only 90 KBPS from my subscription of P 3000/month or 1 MBPS. I get these test results from CNEt and bandwidthplace. I call 171 and they give me no 172375 to call to complain re DSL speed. It takes me 1/2 day to call. Result.Nothing no answer except a machine.
I feel cheated.Imagine getting only 10 % of your money’s worth. I know a network administrator can manage your speed. I have seen MIcrosoft ISA server do this. Is PLDT deceasing speed intentionally?
I resorted to this blog . i hope PDT reads blogs.
My DSL no is 8079067. I hope PLDT will contact me soon.

Amador, if you are in the Philippines always measure your speed using a local tester. The nearer it is, the faster and accurate, the further it is, like US or Europe, of course, slower and is not accurate. The signal needs to bounce back further.

You should try a local bandwidth tester:

    http://utilities.globequest.com.ph/

Don’t use dslreports speed test - for US users only.

I occasionally get 380 Kilobytes per second download speed thats about 3040 kilobits/sec on a MyDSL Plan 2500. Faster than T1 connection.

it’s sp damn annoying… i’ve also been using PLDT Dsl for few years now and since last year my connection is getting worse… last report was somebody stole our street’s PLDT line cable… making us unable to use the internet aswell as the landline. So theres no way we can complain about it easily. And sometimes while i’m downloading something on the net, our connection gets cut off then suddenly gets connected back then for a few secs or minutes it gets cut off and goes back online again. It’s so annoying, make’s me want to switch to another DSL service provider. What kind of service can they provide with this lousy connection. Even here in our Cebu home, we also experience the same problem.

bullshit*** fake advertising… they said 768/512 they offered… wattashit!!!!!!! fake fake fake… i only got 30s… they can be sued for fake ads? bfore its 50s then 40s then 60s and its ok… but a week ago came down to 30s DL speed… its been 9 months now! it dont reach 100s…

i did everything to increase my speed, the firewall, my hardwares, everything… in my conclusion its PLDTs fault.

they provide fake speed so they can have more customers plus with 1 year lock-in subscription ending up people paying a year of worthless plan with slow speed. its big business for them…

The customer service people keep on saying the same thing over and over and I still have recurring problems. I experience a slowdown in my DSL more than once everyweek. I have slow connections on weekends(that is a given). I feel so freakin irritated of my subscription that I am already looking for other providers. Anybody know a good provider in the QC area? =)

    Hello…

I’m a very patient customer so I’m patiently waiting for pldtdsl to fix the problem. But seriously I’m losing my patience since for the past 3 weeks I’ve been calling and calling 1721 (PldtDSL Manila area customer service hotline) because whenever I try to upload ANYTHING that goes over 100kb won’t upload!

So if anyone wants to ask what they will tell you here they are I’ve practically memorized them.

    1. Turn off your modem and PC then turn on your modem first and then turn on your PC.

    2. Clear your Internet Explorer cache and cookies(when you ask them how if your using firefox or opera most of them dont know so go figure.) In the connections tab make sure everything in LAN settings is unchecked. Reset everything in your Internet Explorer settings to default.

    And the hardest of all…

    3. Your PC has a virus or spyware! I formatted and used a single drive to update winXP to the latest ServicePacks, put on 2 firewalls (windows and another one), used 3 updated antivirus software, used 3 updated spyware cleaner/blocker and I also used the new windows malicious thingy removal tool,… which found nothing except for SpyBot telling me to turn on Security Center to detect if I have an antivirus working, which I turned off since it was annoying whenever I was changing from 1 antivirus to another.

So that’s what they are going to tell you when you call them about connection problem.

On a sidenote I did have good connection time which was every Monday about 5am till it croaks when the afternoon comes then I have to wait again till the next Monday…and so on and so forth. Sigh :-/

Oh yeah forgot to mention that my subscription costs me a hefty 2.5k pesos a month (4mb down/768 up in the US) which was working well when my bandwidth was 768/512 but ever since they upgraded my connection to 2Mb/256kbs(pathetic upload) the connection croaked.

Actually they upgraded the plan 1995 to 2mbps download from the results I’ve been getting. It was unstable for me and some other users when they were doing the upgrade. The download rate I’m pretty sure it’s 2mbps and from what you have said getting over 7mbps just proves how unstable their system currently is. For the matter of upload before they upgraded the download/upload i was getting was somewhere between 384kbps and 768kbps but now it seems they capped it at 256kbps. I recommend http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and testmy.net if you want to see your actual bandwidths.

  24. Gravatar Icon glitch replied on Aug 21st, 2006 at 11:52 pm (24)

i tried to use ung testmy.net at im just getting a 1.7mbps speed and sa speakeasy.net/speedtest 2.1mbps lng. but when i try using ung bandwidth test ng pldt im getting 2.6mbps only. in other words 1.7mbps is almost 212kB/s download, 2.1mbps is 262kB/s and 2.6mbps is 325kB/s. but how come im getting 680kB/s sa utorrent and 830kB/s sa internet explorer w/c is equivalent to almost 7mbps. hmmm 3 months unstable pa rin ba bandwidth nun? pero anyway nice service pldt ^^,

last year i subscribed to plan999 and i also happened to open an internet cafe and got the 6k package with 1mbps connection supposedly from pldt. it took them 5 weeks before my home dsl was installed, and 2 months for the one on my cafe. 1mbps? lol i was only getting 30kbps! how the hell was i supposed to run a shop? when they finally fixed it(my bro complained and threatened to sue pldt main), yes, instantly my speed went up to 1mbps. lol. and get this, i counted th dc’s, they got up to 20 times per hour. then about 5 times per day the line drops for an hour. wala na akong mukhang ihaharap sa customers. hiyang hiya ako. and yes, nalugi ang shop ko, it lasted only from july 2006 to december 2006. i blame pldt for it. how can i run a cafe with only 30kbps? and another 2 months! yes, 2 months! before umakyat sa 1mbps ang connection ko! naka set up na ang cafe ko pero i cant open because of that. until now baon pa rin ako sa utang. hehehehe.
i recommend switching to belltel cable internet. i’m paying 3.7k for a speed of 1.5mbps. my download speed is usually 150-180kbps. upload up to 170kbps. im playing rf online and i can leave my pc on for 5 days without any disconnections! and guess what, if their service is palpak like u experience frequent disconnections or slow downs, they ADJUST your bill UNTIL they FIX THE PROBLEM. you heard me right. once i only payed 2k instead of 3.7k because i experienced slowdowns and dc’s. when u complain in the morning, a technician will visit u in the afternoon of the same day. belltel’s service is the best. they service almost the whole of metro manila. i’m not promoting guys. im just so relieved from the nightmare that pldt gave me. i dont mind paying much kahit 1.5mbps lang since the speed is always top notch and they service me immediately if i have concerns. although im thinking of bayantel. hehehehe. im not aware if they have slowdowns or dc issues, i just think its much better to pay 3k for 2mbps with a phone line. hehehe. i have yet to ask around about bayandsl. all i need to know is if i can leave my pc on for 5 days without any dc. then i’ll switch to bayan asap. ahahahaha. sayang din 1k. sana pag may nag complain against pldt magsama sama tayong lahat. ahahahaha. abusado sila. magnanakaw ng pera thru false ads and a very long lock in period.

Ive been using my pldt for 2 years and my connection has been getting slower and slower when it is supposed to be faster. As much as i wanna complain i have 4 friends that are paying for much more and yet my connection is still faster than them which really verifies that PLDT’s service is a TOTAL RIP-OFF!!! I hope to God that some new telecomm company comes and puts them out of business!!Anyone working for this laughable and totally incompetent company should be ashamed of themselves. Im tired of calling PLDT’s (so called) customer service and getting the same lame old answers that aint getting my speed up. Im getting 30% of what i am paying them and the technicians that they send are incompetent and clueless of what they are doing. I am not an idiot to believe that my line isnt able to cope up with the increased speeds since about 3 months ago my speed went up to 700kbps for about a week before going back to its normal hellish speed.I wanna put a big black eye on the guy who does the commercials about how blazingly fast and efficient their service is. IF ANYONE FROM PLDT READS THIS MESSAGE…..I HOPE TO GOD THAT EVERYONE IN PLDT ESPECIALLY YOUR CEO’S BURN IN HELL AND GET WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU ALL DESERVE!!!

I’ve had PLDT for a few years now and, like most of you, my connection speed (up & down) has been getting steadliy worse. The reason to me is obvious. PLDT, while offering their new promos, have not bothered to increase their bandwidth to accomodate for the increase in subcribers! I don’t even bother checking the speed on http://www.speedtest.net since it just gets me angry! Honestly, I’ve had better net speed in Iraq and that was a VSAT! What’s really sad is that, in my area, I have no other choice that I know of.

Hey guys. I just wanted to share my experience with PLDT and how to deal with them. I have been dealing with PLDT personnels for almost a year now regarding my DSL connection and plan. I am subscribed to their Professional Plan (Plan 3000). By then, when I applied for it, they offered a speed of up to 5Mbps. Take note - 5 Mbps. After signing up for this plan, about 2 months later, they changed it to Plan 3000 to a speed of up to 3 Mbps.

Before I applied for that plan, I specifically asked them the difference of the 3 different plans they offer - Plan 999, 1995 and 3000. They said that each of them has a different speed levels which is “up to” 1 Mbps for the plan 999, 2 Mbps for plan 1995 and 3Mbps for plan 3000. But take note of the words “up to”. I told them that I don’t care about the maximum speed they can deliver but what my concern is the “minimum guaranteed speed” that each plan offers because that what makes it differs from each of the plans.

So, the person in charge and another person from manila and another from cebu told me that the minimum guaranteed speed that I should be getting is 70% of the plan signed up for and an average of 80% speed all through out if my location is or about 1 KM from the port.

Luckily for me, I am within 1 KM from the PLDT central office from which my DSL is connected. Unfortunately, with the plan that I signed up for, they can only deliver of less than 1.5 Mbps (test taken from the PLDT play which they have currently overhauled to give the “accurate” speed)which is still far below the 3.5 Mbps guaranteed speed.

But before this scenario, the pldt play and the speedtest.net singapore sever registered a very high output for my speed which ranged from 4 Mbps to 6 Mbps even if my connection was very slow. I could tell that my connection was slow due to the video(s) in youtube, ebaumsworld, etc. that they keep on buffering. (Don’t get me wrong, I have a little program running if i browse the net and I have a fast speed computer with dual core 64 bit processor and 2 GB memory.) And to some of my test sites in which I have a benchmark of the speed every hour, (like testmy.net, 2wire.com, etc.) they show a very consistent speed. During peak hours, the testmy.net and 2wire.com show speed that’s almost consistent with my browsing but PLDT play and speedtest.net singapore sever shows a different story otherwise. No matter what time of day, PLDT play and singapore server showed a consistent of 4 Mbps - 6 Mbps speed. But that has changed all now. Singapore server and PLDT play is quite consistent with the testmy.net results.

Enough for that, if you have complains about your DSL, make sure you know the terms or computer lingos or have somebody who knows computer very well to talk to the PLDT “network engineers”. You should demand that you need an “engineer” to fix your problem and not a “trained technician” of PLDT. A lot of their trained technicians don’t really know what they are doing. They will just give you “alibis” to satisfy you or give explanations which is actually not related to the problem you might be experiencing. You, as a subscriber and don’t know much about the networking, you tend to just accept their alibis. And in most cases, if the problem persists, what most of the technicians do is just tell you to reset your modem, turn off your computer or simply they will just reset the port of connection where your DSL is connected. You have to bear in mind though, that any resetting WILL ONLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM “TEMPORARILY”. If the problem is in the connection or the hardware or software which is most likely, the problem will still persist over time. The engineers should locate the real cause of the problem and fix it - not patch it by just pressing the reset button or powering down your system.

Another thing, if you call their 171 or 172 support, be sure to log every phone calls you make. Make a spreed sheet that logs your call - date and time of call, agent you talk to, nature of call, comment regarding the call, etc. This is very helpful for future reference especially if you apply for a rebate.

According to PLDT that they don’t issue rebate if the problem did not last longer than 24 hours. But this is a very bad practice. You as a paying customer, you should demand for a rebate regardless you were down for 1 hour, 2 hours or whatever - as long as you have a service interruption. Let us put this into logic, if they don’t give rebates to customers to a problem that did not persist for more than 24 hours, then they can interrupt their service for 23 hours a day and give you only 1 hour of service daily. Will it be fair enough for you especially if you are paying the full amount every month? The amount you are paying every month for your DSL service should be uninterrupted service for 24/7.

You should call the 171-53 (log your call again) and apply for a rebate. If you have slow connection, complain and ask for rebates too. Tell the PLDT that you are not getting the service you are paying for.

I hope every one will do what I am suggesting and advising. I need every one to do their share so at least PLDT will improve their service. Right now, I am getting a regular/monthly rebate of more than P2000 until they fix the problem.

Hope this information will help you all.

PLDT DSL is the worst internet broadband plan ever. If you are planning on getting one, I suggest you think first or ask your TECHIE friends about their experience on PLDT broadband plans.

PLDT sucks because they don’t give you the speed you are supposed to have. And you don’t get a stable connection.

PLDT sucks. They’re only fast when they’ll install your ADSL box but even a kid could do that. PLDT is the worst. Better grab a Globe broadband plan. It’s faster than the SMART prepaid that’s being over advertised in this blog.

    Lies, all lies. Suck it.

I’ve been a loyal subscriber for 4 years already but this year their service has just been so effing AWFUL!!! Their customer reps are not helpful and their tech reps are worse (they’re so condescending in giving solutions which are so basic - if you’ve worked in a call center providing tech support before - it’s an insult to your intelligence as you know they’re just working off an information base of basic steps or something - which you’ve already checked but they still won’t believe you!) I’m switching soon to another provider soon as I find out which is better. For the heck of it, might get 1 globe and 1 zpdee lowest packages and just see w/c outperforms the other. Paying the ‘higher’ and ‘better’ packages don’t seem to be a ’smart’ move anymore - they keep on upgrading/downgrading the plans to their liking/profit! If you have more than 1 pc at home and you’d like to get an internet connection for both, it seems to be a better move to get 1 lowest connection for each - at least when 1 connection goes down, you still have the other!

wag na kayong magpakabit ng pldt dsl kung ayaw nyo ng sakit ng ulo. i upgraded to 3Mbps plan (that’s 3k/month) but we barely reach 1.5Mbps. Grabe gusto lang talaga nila kumita and they dont care abt their customers!
