Dangers of Twitter and other horrific possibilities

I thought the discussion about Twitter (see J Angelo’s counter on Joab) was over until Steve Rubel of Micropersuasion (a PR executive) published an open letter of apology to Jim Louderback (Editor-in-Chief of PC Magazine) about his comment on Twitter:

Twitter

I think Steve should have posted a 140-character apology on Twitter and not his blog. *snicker*

Steve Rubel

Imagine if other more influential people would use Twitter?

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Twitter: Sana natuluyan na asawa ko. Puro kamalasan na lang kase.

First Gentlemen Jose Miguel Arroyo on Twitter: Good thing ‘di ako binisita ng kabit ko sa hospital! Natuluyan sana ako.

US Vice President Dick Cheney: Not sure how to beat Obama and Hilary. I should invite them duck hunting.

US President George Bush: Losing approval rating… need more oil… maybe bomb Kuwait next. Think, think.

Ok, ‘nuf of this Twitter thing. *hehehe*

C’mon Abe, what’s up with the Twitter hate?

It’s just a different way of using IM, making announcements, etc.

I used it for a week, and then it started getting too slow, so I don’t post as frequently.

The whole idea for me was, I have the plug-in on my blog and when I’m away from my computer I could just text a quick message from my phone to give an update of what I’m doing. No complicated log-ins and setups.

It’s really so simple except that they weren’t able to scale themselves fast enough.

You don’t have to use it, but it’s a really great service if it was more reliable.

I’m partially with sir abe. I hardly follow the latest tweets from my friends, I just visit the links they share, the sites they visit etc. but actually engage in a conversation on twitter? I’d rather use YM or Gtalk for that. :D

      @ Rickey

No, I don’t hate Twitter. I actually like reading Twitters of fellow Pinoy bloggers, including yours! :)

      @ Migs

I’m this close to joining Twitter. :)

Twittering is like taking a break from work.

Cmon, have you given it a try? We’re waiting for you “on the dark side”.

Look for spam accounts to infest Twitter. Get a hot chick as your avatar add a bunch of guys as your friends (they will add you because your hot). Twitter some sexy things and then some affiliate links that are converted to tinyurl links.

There are better Twitter alternatives… I’m sure Abe is familiar with those ;)

If you want to text to your site… Twitter is not the ultimate solution :p
