This just in — Yahoo! Mail beta is now offering free text messaging to mobile phones. According to DownloadSquad, this service is only available for US, Canada, India and the Philippines. You’ll need to switch to the new Yahoo! Mail in order to send messages to phones in those four countries mentioned. Your contact should also have a valid mobile phone in their profile. Yahoo! Messenger is also integrated in the new Outlook-like interface.

Does this work like Chikka where the person who receives the SMS has to reply in order for you to continue sending SMS? I hope not.
According to Techcrunch, Yahoo! Mail is now out of beta
They’re not completely rolled it out. Mine’s still in beta.
@ jayps, same set up as the YM to SMS I guess.
Abe,
I searched for a PC vs Mac entry and found some of your posts unsatisfying. I’m being presumptuous but maybe you could do a post on laptops. Mac vs PC laptops. Should be good for traffic, too.
For Filipinos, what is the best deal. Apple has an Apple care center, so with an additional 15k you’re set for 3 years. PC laptops are very problematic on that respect, especially with the new Vista OS. And why do PC laptops cost more than Macs here? Take Lenovo for instance. You can buy them 50% cheaper underground but on the official lenovo Philippines site a 512 core duo costs P80k.
Many Filipinos who can afford it opt to schedule their next laptop buy with their next Hong Kong trip. A great idea since Dells are even cheaper there than in the U.S.
So what’s your take. I have no problems with my Dell inspiron 700m at all. The best screen, still is. Probably comparable with the inspiron 1420 1440 x 900 truebrite. Two years na tong 700m ko. It doesn’t even hang up even when I’m multi-tasking. Lenovos are legendary when it comes to durability.
Oops, sorry for digressing frpom the topic. I should have emailed. Sorry, talaga. Hang over.
My next laptop purchase will definitely be a MacBook. I should be able to do first-hand comparative review of both by then.
Accdg. to the article that i read, The new version of Yahoo Mail will roll out globally over the next six weeks starting today.
I wonder when will Gmail follow suit?
@Abe - I’ll try it out later. So when can we expect that comparative review?
@jhay actually gmail already has a free sms but only for US telcos. this is what i’m using to text wifey in the U.S.
