Giveaway: Edimax WiFi N300 Extender

The folks from UberTech sent us this little gadget they wanted us to try out and maybe give away to readers as well. It’s a 300Mbps WiFi extender from Edimax.

We’ve tried and used a number of WiFi extenders at home. It’s usually needed in situations where the house is huge that the WiFi router cannot cover the entire area or in corners of the house where the signal is blocked by solid wall or enclosure.

The device is pretty small and handy. The power socket is one one side of the unit which could be cumbersome in occasions where the outlet is too close to the corner of the wall. There are several LED light indicators to show activity of the router.

We’ve been trying to get this to work for a week now but it seems to be very picky with routers it can work with. Either that or the extender needs a little bit of work on the usability department [Update: We’ve managed to start fresh and finally made it to work by resetting the device.]

There’s a single LAN port for you to use when you want to hook the WiFi extender to wired device (like a desktop PC, etc.)

As for the range, we noticed a fairly good amount of boost in the signal range. We’re looking at an additional 20-30 meters more.

Take note those that the signal is extended by is not strengthened — that means that if the WiFi extender is repeating a 10Mbps signal from a 150Mbps router, the effective bandwidth of the extension is just 10Mbps and not the original 150Mbps.

The Edimax WiFi N300 router sells for Php1,950 and is available in the following stores — Gilmore IT center, SM North EDSA Annex, and Greenhills VMall IT stores.

So we’re going to give this away to our readers. Just click on the Rafflecopter widget below to join:

We have a router at school (I am a teacher), not at our house. It is a D-Link branded one with 100 mbps of speed. This device would be a great help for us to extend its signal since the router’s room location has thick walls alongside.
