Cherry Mobile Magnum 2X goes dual-core

Cherry Mobile is once again challenging the local market by introducing the most affordable dual-core Android smartphone in the Philippines with the Magnum 2X (an upgrade of the Magnum HD).

Cherry Mobile Magnum 2X specs:
3.8″ capacitive display @ 480×800 pixels*
1.0 GHz NVvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor
8GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
512MB RAM*
5MP rear camera & VGA front-facing camera
WiFi 802.11 b,g/n, WiFi hotspot
Bluetooth 2.1
3G/HSDPA
GPS w/ aGPS support*
Android 2.2 Froyo (upgradable to Android 2.3)

Some of the information above were not revealed (ones in asterisk) by Cherry Mobile but a little digging gave us more details. Not diea if this can play full HD videos but since it’s an NVidia chip, it most probably can. The display size is smaller compared to the 4.1″ of the first Magnum HD.

The introductory price is only Php15,899 so it’s not bad!

This phone has NO Gingerbread out-of-the-box, nor does it have a camera flash, or even HDMI TV-Out (or that’s what GSMArena.com is saying; they don’t even know what Wi-Fi networks its Indian cousin, Micromax A85, can connect to)

So much for the Dual-core processor.

But hey! At least it’s new for under 16k; a second-hand SGSII will run you at least 19k, Optimus 2x around 15k. :)

The Gingerbread update is now available on the cherry mobile site. I did it and the phone is amazing now.

It’s amazing that a dual core NVIDIA Tegra device can be priced this low. Makes you think how profit-hungry the other OEMs can be…. It’s still not for the brand conscious though. My friend is yet to recover from the horrors of a cherry phone getting bricked on a single-drop.

To anyone who actually wants to see what it looks like, here’s a preview of the K-Touch W700 (which is basically the Magnum 2X):

Looking pretty good given the specs.

Slightly off topic. If Cherry can create a phone with 8 GB of onboard storage, I wonder why HTC won’t? I wonder why they insist on relying on micro SD cards?

probably because it will pull the price of their units tad higher.

good things this one has huge onboard + sd slot. card slots are still better than none like iphones, atleast consumers have options.

watch the videos! i’m beginning to fall in love with this! if Cherry mobile did not change anything from this other than the name, Magnum 2X would be an awesome phone.. i’m a huge Android fan and this is pretty worth it if the price is under 20K! :)

Not bad. I kinda like the design of this thing. If I didn’t have a phone, this one is definitly worth considering.
