Poll: How do you get your news?

Listen to article

For the longest time, we’ve been prioritizing the use of RSS feeds as the primary delivery platform for this blog — sending full content to your feed readers and email blasts. Wil the growing popularity of Facebook, Twitter and Google+, it seems RSS has taken a backstage.

I wanted to confirm that though so here’s a quick and simple poll for our readers this week — what’s your primary blog/news delivery platform?

  • I go and read directly from the site every chance I can.
  • I use a feed reader.
  • I subscribe to email alerts/blasts.
  • I follow and wait for the Twitter alert.
  • I subscribe to the Facebook Page.
  • I follow the author on Google+.
  • I use a mobile app.
  • I use something else.

Do hit the poll widget on the right side, below or hit the comments. I have this feeling that Facebook will take the upper hand. Internal stats for this blog shows an overwhelming lead for Facebook, followed by Twitter on distant second and Google+.

Nowadays, Twitter, Facebook, Google News … these are the sites where I get first glimpse of the day’s news.

I still get more substance from television newscasts, though. So I guess news for me comes mainly from TV.

I use Google Reader. I used to directly visit the site but when I found out about Google Reader (while browsing through the other tabs in Google+), I found it nifty and convenient. All sites I am subscribed to in one reader.

If I were to get news from Twitter, Facebook or Google+, chances are I’ll miss some that directly interest me but not the popular ones. That’s why I’m subscribed via RSS using Google Reader, and I read them using FeeddlerPro for iPhone, Reeder for Mac, and the web in my PC.

Google Reader!

I think your internal stats are lying to you. It can’t trace readers who are subscribed to your feeds because most of the people who read through RSS are not visiting directly to your site but instead are reading it through their RSS Feeds.

well, unless you also do consider checking your Feedburner stats. But from what I have experienced, feedburner stats are still inaccurate since only the Emails are counted accurately for both verified and unverified subscribers. those who read through their Readers (e.g. Google Reader) aren’t as traceable through the stats though.

RSS feed is the most convinient of all. I don’t have to open the site everytime. Less loading times since the whole website is not loaded. I can access it anywhere. I don’t have to get up on my bed to read news and updates. No messy tabbed browsing. I’m using the MobileRSS which connects through Google Reader.
