Smartphones out-shipped feature-phones last quarter

Last month we shared with you guys IDC’s prediction for last quarter that smartphones’ increasing popularity in the market will result to a groundbreaking overturn of it out-shipping feature phones for the first time in history. Sony has just announced the list of Xperia smartphones that will receive the much awaited Android 4.1 Jellybean update. According to the Sony Xperia Product Blog, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is already on the way for the global versions of the following Xperia smartphones: Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J. Acer to release six new smartphones in 2013

Acer isn't actually making a huge dent in the smartphone market but that doesn't mean it's going to give up easily. In fact, it is going to launch six new smartphones next year and one of them will be running Windows Phone 8. Based on their recent research, International Data Corporation (IDC) has reasons to believe that smartphones will overtake the feature phone (aka dumbphones) shipments for the first time this year and will continue to do so for the next succeeding years. AnTuTu, a popular Android device benchmark tool, has released its annual report of the best and most popular Android smartphone for 2014. Find out if your device made it on the list.
