For smartphones, is White the new Black?

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: April 13, 2013

For the longest time, phone manufacturers have been conservative with the colors that they use in their handsets. The usual black or dark colors were the norm. Lately though, we're seeing more and more flagship phones that come with pristine white colors and oftentimes, they sell more than any other available colors. Take for example these new handsets from the several brands -- the BlackBerry Z10, Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One X+ and the iPhone 5 (see photo below). Of the 4 white-colored handsets above, we've also had the chance to use the black versions. With the Z10, the black

So Globe Telecom came out today with another teaser for their LTE service. Dubbed, Globe Tattoo Black, the soon-to-be-launched LTE service also promises speeds of up to 42Mbps with a monthly service fee that starts at Php1,799. And that's all that we know of the Globe Tattoo Black for now. There's no mention of the dongle (although we suspect it's going to be the same Huawei 4G dongle), the coverage areas or if there's any bandwidth cap. The newspaper ad on the Inquirer today says it all. If Globe is going to keep its motto "Live without Limits" as shown…

Black Friday is a huge shopping day in the US and it's one of those times when customers get very good deals on almost everything. Fortunately, this event also happens online (Cyber Black Friday) so we can join in the shopping spree even if we're not in the US. Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States and is traditionally considered as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. I actually only learned about it last year and was going the rounds of Amazon for good deals (you can watch this page for lightning deals that…

While a lot of people are celebrating Thanksgiving Day in the US, it has been overshadowed by Black Friday deals with a lot of products on sale with deep discounts. Amazon has been my go to place to shop online and have the items shipped to my friend in the US for forwarding later on via balik bayan box. Last night, some pretty good deals appeared on Amazon and one such item is the Canon S100 which was selling for just $229 or about Php9,400 {see listing here}. I also included the Kindle Fire HD which is sold for $199…

Globe cuts off service on Black Nazarene due to security

Relevance: 87%      Posted on: January 9, 2012

If you are wondering why there's no cellular signal around Quiapo and neighboring areas from Globe and other telcos today, it's because they've cut off signal for security reasons as we celebrate the Black Nazarene. Globe has been sending out notices via Twitter/FB (and just now, via SMS) that this is in accordance to government requests. The President has earlier made an announcement that terror threats have been raised to coincide with the feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo. The request to cut off cell signal in those areas could be a precautionary measure (probably to hinder remotely-triggered bombs).…

The Optimus Black is among the thinnest we've seen lately (SE Xperia Arc comes in at 8.7mm and the Galaxy S2 is 8.5mm) at only 9.2mm -- that's still 0.1mm thinner than the iPhone4.
