PLDT Fiber to Home starts at Php3.5k for 8Mbps

During the Smart LTE launch yesterday, I talked to one PLDT/Smart exec and he told me that the LTE sites must be supported by fiber on the ground in order for it to work. He then offered to set me up on a test 100Mbps Fiber-to-Home connection.

So I checked up on the Fibr residential plans of PLDT and found this.

The Fiber to Home plans and pricing are as follows:

100Mbps at Php20,000/month
15Mbps at Php5,500/month
8Mbps at Php3,500/month

Now that’s something to consider. I think Fibr is much better that regular wired DSL (PLDT has a 10Mbps at Php4k/month) since you usually get the subscribed speed instead of the usual 60-80% capacity.

One thing missing on the page ads are the uplink speeds. but since they are using FOs, safe to expect 8/8 or 100/100. anyhow, sheer bandwidth and latency, though affects each other, are completely different. Globe’s 3G hits around 12Mbps while Bayantel’s homedsl is just 1Mbps. I play online games and use SEA and US West servers. bayantel connects to SG servers 120ms while globe can only manage 700ms. At any rate, keep in mind that 1 byte is 8 bits. Mb is Megabits and MB is Megabytes. 8Mbps means you can reach realistically around 900KBps.

I am currently on the 8 mbps plan for 3.5k a month. It is quite pricey but in my line of work I need a fast internet connection so I went for it. My experience with PLDT Fibr is horrible. Speed is OK when it is connected. The problem is that their network is unstable. In one time, my connection was down for 1 week. Fastest issue resolution was three days. 8 days was the longest time that there were no issues. Customer service also sucks, technical support people doesn’t know how to troubleshoot issues.

Did the PLDT Fiber speed improve as of today or are you still getting problems. I plan to subscribe to the Plan 3500 so I was wondering if it is worth it. I may currently subscribing to MyDestiny for speed up to 2MBps but speed is so slow. Horrible internet service from MyDestiny.

dito sa goodwill 2 subd. sucat paranaque may fiber na.. at ang bilis nya. 8mbs talaga speed nya.. umaabot pa nga ng 11mbps eh.

Dito po sa amin nag kakabit na ngayon sa squatter area snt. joseph subd., las pinas. grabe sinu makaka afford nyan dito hihi 3,500 :) makakaupa ka ng bahay nyan eh dito sa lugar namin.

para naman mga taga high income villages lang kayang bumili ng services na yan ng pldt. dapat make it available for everyone.! hindi yung mga oligarchs lamang ang nakakatikim ng ganitong services. parang pinapalabas ng pldt na para sa mayaman lng ang fiber na yan. nakaka offend. pwe!

cost a lot and it’s a real pain in the wallet, but at least fiber cable is starting in our country. and maybe 2 years from now it will cheaper..

It says Fiber to Home meaning constant ang quality ng connection nito “IF” from head end > node > home all fiber. Baka naman kasi gamitin yung from node then use existing copper wires to home.

They cant install copper wires. here in our village. and global. fiber optics are installed submarine engineered. therefore, fibers are used. we’ve seen them installed it. showed the (multi mode) in a cylinder, strands of highly powered light pulses merged and beamed through fiber strands.

Talked to Smart/PLDT. Di daw Fiber to the curve lang but to the home talaga.

the offer is good only in prime areas. I have been requesting the 10mbps for my home for 6 months now and unless i get into their “white list” that’s the only time you’ll get the line. why the hell advertise and tell this to everyone when not everyone can have access to it. what are they thinking? only people in valle verde, forbes, etc. can afford this? crazy people in marketing. wake-up!!!!!

PLDT FIBR offers their services to these locations because only these places have the sufficient sattellite receptors to accomodate such fast internet. these locations have the towers to connect the Fibr cable to. PLDT is not bias to the rich or poor, they simply haven’t expanded the FIBR’S services

That UPTO clause can make them do it from 0.01mbps to that rate. So if its too slow they wouldn’t be held liable #justsayin

This is too expensive for me as I need to buy a house first in Forbes park to subscribe to one hehehe. Kidding aside the price is not that bad comparing to the services that the competition is offering. I hope pldt can broaden the coverage area, I think middle class can still afford the cheapest fibr plan that they offer

I think the plans that they are offering are not exactly what you’re going to expect. the advert should say “up to 8 mbps”, “up to 15 mbps” & “up to 100 mbps”. of course the actual speed will still vary especially kapag peak times na. In the UK, virgin media services are offering as much as up to 120 mbps for fiber optic connection. People are willing to pay a lot to get that speed, but there are still complaints about getting slow speeds.

Oh well, PLDT products were great however their customer service is very poor. Imagine, if you will not follow up your subscription in their branch office, you will get lost. My subscription had been for installation for almost 3 days already but they only knew it when i followed it up… PLDT please improve your poor customer service. Thank You. Very dissapointing.

Take note that FTTx is still classified as broadband technology which means as more users subscribe to it, the larger the contention for bandwidth is.

There’s no guaranteed rate of bandwidth (CIR).

any word on when they plan to expand their fiber coverage? i’m in san juan but not in one of those exclusive subdivisions. i’ve been using their 3k dsl plan for a very long time now

I’m on PLDT MyDSL 3mbps plan for almost 7 years now and it has been very very reliable and consistent (under NGN line). PLDT is the best for wired DSL IMHO. So this fiber plan is what we should look forward to. I’m sure it’ll be as reliable, if not, more reliable than their DSL. Just make it 3k for 8mbps and I’ll surely be on it!

lugeee… dito sa HK, 500Mbps Local access, at papalo ka ng mga around 50 to 100 Mbps pag overseas, just only cost 218 hkd which is around 1200 pesos. Yan ang nagagawa pag walang competition sa market.

well here sa philippines, kung walang kakumpetensya, mas mataas ang babayaran mo kasi no choice ka, the exmaple here eh yung sa electric company here sa Ph.

At kung may kakumpetensya naman, naguusap ang mga kumpanya para lapet lapet sila ng presyo, again, no choice din ang mga consumer, example here is the fuel/gas distributor.

At kung meron din labanan sa kumpetensya, at di mo matalo, bibilhin ng isang kumpanaya ang isa, example here is the telcos.

Sad to say, until now, makikita mo pa din na makasarili pa din talaga mga kumpanya dito sa Ph, they are not really focus on service.

As for the fiber, parang ok din yan, pero sana may upgrade plans & special rates sa mga old/current subscribers. :)

its nice to hear na nasa HK kana. I suggest you stay there and not come back to your country just because your own country does not offer cheap internet… which is actually just a product by private companies.

hindi kasama sa market share ang QC kasi hindi ganon kataas ang income ng mga residents… sa south usually kasi mga upper class nakatira, ung tipong afford mo mag skyway everyday back and forth, or mag slex, Gas ung suv mo, nasa 10k ung monthly association dues ng tinitirhan mo e d afford mo to…

Fiber connections are actually way better than what we’re using now, which is wireless. You constantly get your subscribed speed and sometimes, it gets higher.
