Our first stop today was the Pyung-Take Factory of LG Electronics, a 1-hour bus ride from Seoul. Here, we were introduced to some of the products and gadgets made by LG since they started into the business.
There were so many stuff introduced to us that I couldn’t cover all of them in one entry so I’ll try to divide the items by category — display, mobile phones, laptops, entertainment and home theater.
At the Pyung-Taek Factory, there’s this huge collection of electronics that LG stores in a big walk-in vault. In order to gain access, you need to go thru a retinal scan.
The security lock is also made by LG and called Iris Access. LG (formerly known as Lucky & Goldstar) is into so many stuff I only knew about today. This secret vault showed us their first entry into the electronics market from way back in the 50′s.
Take for example this LGP-200, the first CDMA phone introduced in Korea back in 1996. My very first mobile phone back in the 90s was similar to this, the banana-type ones.
This one is the very first radio in Korea and was made by LG in 1959 (A-501).
The first Black & White TV was also made by LG in Korea back in 1966. These units are actually still working up to now and are the ones on displayed when you first enter the vault.
Inside are many of the other new gadgets LG showed during the last CES in January so I was excited to be able to try them first-hand. Check back on my next post.

Had a Goldstar TV once called the GoldenEye. I think it was the first TV to automatically adjust the picture depending on the lighting of the room. Once set, the picture adjusts itself as the room lighting varies. Quite nice really, until it conked out after more than 3 years. Which is not a bad thing. Then came the new models named “LG”.
The LG appliance we have at home is a DVD player (the LCD TV is in the works). It has a good DTS and 5.1Ch decoder producing true DTS sounds through the home theater system. As of now, the only thing that could to make me part with it is a Blu-Ray player.
Those “old tech” appliances were the precursors of the products we have and enjoy now, and they were considered “high tech” at the time.
Think about that.
Quite old school, this guy really. LOL!!
