Apple launches Apple TV+, Apple TV app

Apple has just unveiled the Apple TV+, the company’s original video subscription service. It has also unveiled the Apple TV app, giving customers access to about 150 channels and streaming services.

Apple TV+ will feature TV shows, documentaries, and movies from artists such as Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Octavia Spencer, J.J. Abrams, Jason Momoa, M. Night Shyamalan, Jon M. Chu and more.

The subscription promises on-demand and ad-free access to its content through the new Apple TV app. Launching in May 2019, the Apple TV app will be available on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, smart TVs, and streaming devices. Users can subscribe to channels and services of their choice, such as HBO, SHOWTIME, on demand and available on and offline.

Apple has stated that the Apple TV app will cover shows and movies from about 150 channels and streaming services. Channels include HBO, Starz, SHOWTIME, CBS All Access, Smithsonian Channel, EPIX, Tastemade, while streaming services include Amazon Prime and Hulu. It will also cover pay-TV services such as Canal+, Charter Spectrum, DIRECTV NOW, and PlayStation Vue, with more to be added later in the year after the app’s launch.

Lastly, Apple has also announced that the movies and TV shows currently available for rent on the iTunes Store will also be present in the Apple TV app.

Pricing and availability for the Apple TV+ are yet to be announced. As for the Apple TV app, it launches in 100 territories in May on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV box, while it’ll be available for macOS in the Fall. The app will also be making its way to other platforms such as Samsung smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV,  Roky, LG, Sony, and Vizio TVs in the future.
