True-wireless earbuds have been getting better and better since the arrival of Apple’s 2016 AirPods. We’re now seeing offerings from big audio brands, and one of those that stand out is the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless. Is it worth buying? Let’s find out in this review.

Design and Construction
Let’s start with what’s inside the box. Here you’re greeted with both earbuds, and it’s small carrying case with fabric exterior. Also included are the manual, USB Type-C cable, and extra ear tips with varying sizes.
Looking at the carrying case. Again, the exterior is covered in a classy fabric which could get dirtied and worn depending on how you handle it. At the back, you can find a USB Type-C port for charging the case and the buds when they’re inside, as well as a button that when pressed, activates the LED indicator that shows the battery level — red, yellow and green.
Inside the case, you get some Sennheiser branding on the top lid, and slots for the buds. The buds are secured inside with the help of magnets, so the buds don’t fall out if you turn them over.
For the buds themselves, I find these them to be more on the bulky spectrum of truly wireless earbuds. It gets tiring to the ears if you have them on for more than four hours, but I think you’ll get used to it eventually.
Due to its size, I was also worried that it might fall off easily, but as long as you use the right size of tips for your ears, they’re snug, secure, and won’t fall even if you shake your head.
If you’re planning to take this for an outdoor run or to the gym, it’s great to know that these buds have an IPX4 rating which means they can handle sweat, rain, and splashes. Just don’t dunk them in the water.
Setup and Features
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless connects to your mobile device via Bluetooth 5.0. To pair, you need to wear the left, and right earbuds then touch and hold their surface (the silver part with the Sennheiser logo) for 5 seconds to initiate pairing mode. From there, your mobile device should detect the earbuds. Just connect, and you’re good to go.
If you want to take full advantage of all the features, you’ll need to install the Sennheiser Smart Control app which is available for Android and iOS. From there you can check the battery level, play with the equalizer, activate or deactivate the Transparent Hearing feature, update the firmware, or tweak playback settings as well as voice assistant access.
One thing I like about the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless is that I don’t have to switch it on every time I take it out of the case. Once you put it on your ear, it automatically turns on and pairs to your smartphone. When I’m done listening, I just put it back in the case, and it automatically switches off and charges.
Touch Control
One of the main features of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless is its touch control feature. Using a series of taps, you can control music playback on the left earbuds, and call functions on the left. To adjust the volume, touch and hold on the left earbud to lower the volume, or the right to raise it. To activate your Voice Assistants such as Google Assistant or Siri, tap on the right earbud once.
Transparent Hearing
Transparent Hearing is a cool feature that allows you to hear ambient noise while you’re music is playing. In a way, it’s like a safety feature to make sure that you’re still aware of what’s happening around you. This way you don’t miss train or flight announcements, people trying to talk to you, or traffic like cars and bikes passing by. To activate or deactivate, you can either use the Smart Control app or just double tap on the right earbuds.
Audio and Call Quality
Inside these buds are some wicked 7mm Dynamic Drivers as the sound quality that comes from these Momentum TWs is impressive. It’s Sennheiser, so that’s expected. It can get loud, but we found the sweet spot at around 60 to 70%.
The bass is tight and powerful but not too heavy. If you like bassy tracks, Momentum TW can deliver those beats. Mids and highs are rich as well. The crispiness I’m looking for in rock music is present but not piercing. Detailed but not harsh. Overall, the audio quality is excellent and balanced enough to take on all kinds of music.
As for audio codec, the Momentum TWs supports aptX Low Latency which ensures that audio delivered is in sync with visual media, and uses Qualcomm aptX HD so it can deliver HD audio. Just make sure that your mobile device also supports the codec. It’s okay if you’re going to use it to listen to Spotify or Deezer, but if you really want to hear these earbuds shine, we recommend using lossless audio. In our case, we used FLAC, and the difference in quality is very noticeable.
As for call quality, I’ve used the Momentum TWs for regular and online calls, and so far, the quality is loud and clear. We didn’t even have to raise our voices, just the average speaking level, the microphone picks it up well.
Battery Life
For battery life, these buds can last for up to 4 hours of continuous playback, which is decent. With the charging case, you get an extra 8 hours for a total of 12 hours. That’s good enough for long haul flights. Charging for one cycle takes about 40 minutes.
Conclusion
Is the Momentum True Wireless worth buying? Well, it comes with a hefty price tag of PHP 19,990, but hey, we’re talking about Sennheiser here. And this is not your typical truly wireless monitors. In addition, Sennheiser is also throwing in a 2-year warranty. If you have the budget and don’t want to settle in terms of audio quality, I say it’s worth the money.
