YouTube currently testing methods to counter ad blockers

YouTube has now been running some tests in hopes to stop users from using ad blockers and switch over to either not using one completely or subscribing to YouTube Premium.

It was first noticed by users on Reddit with a pop-up stating that YouTube’s video player was being blocked after three videos whilst using an ad blocker.

The pop-up also details statements that Ads allow YouTube to be free to all users, the option to go ad-free by subscribing to YouTube Premium, and a report link for those who feel that they have been falsely flagged for using an ad blocker.

According to Android Authority, YouTube has confirmed that it is currently testing a new three-strikes policy for users using ad blockers.

A YouTube spokesperson confirmed that the experiment is now being tested globally and that the use of ad blockers violates YouTube’s terms of service.

The spokesperson also stated that users with ad blockers will receive “repeated notifications” and those who still continue to use ad blockers shall have playback temporarily disabled.
