Every time a new iPhone is announced, you can expect it to receive negative comments mostly about the design, features, and expensive price tags especially in the Philippines. But why do people still buy iPhones despite its downsides? Here are six reasons.
Table of Contents
We have to admit that Apple makes gorgeous smartphones through a combination of attractive design and premium materials. Even the four year old iPhone 5 and the plastic-clad iPhone 5c can still be considered attractive. Other smartphone manufacturers also took note of some of the iPhone 6’s design characteristics and implemented it in some of their own devices. In other words, iPhones are not just functional, they’re also ornamental.
iPhones are expensive, yes, but those who opt to purchase an iPhone can take solace that their new device can still be sold at a good price after a few years. Looking at OLX, the cheapest second hand iPhone 6 (16GB) listing I’ve seen as of writing has an asking price of Php15K, for a two-year old phone, that’s not bad. For last year’s iPhone 6s, the cheapest second hand listing I’ve seen is at Php21K. And if you can sell it for that much, that would cover a good chunk of your budget if you’re planning to upgrade.
If you have an iPhone, you can be sure that it’ll receive iOS upgrades for years as long as Apple deems the hardware eligible. One perfect example is the iPhone 5 which debuted with iOS 6 in 2012. Four years later, it is still eligible for iOS 10. Compare that to a Nexus device with only two years of guaranteed Android version updates.
Say what you want about more CPU cores and bigger RAM, but Apple’s iPhone 7 has recently set a record-breaking score on AnTuTu with their new A10 Fusion chip and 2GB RAM, surpassing its Android rivals. This is proof that Apple really knows how to make hardware and software work together to provide one of the best smartphone experiences in the market.
When a new iPhone is released in the market, expect tons of accessories ranging from cases, to cables, to power packs, to be available soon. That is because: 1. iPhones are popular, and 2. Apple only produces a couple of models every year which makes it more feasible for manufacturers.
It’s been said before, Apple is a master when it comes to marketing its products. They can still make you like it even if the “new” features are not really new or removed some important features like the headphone jack. I’m currently using an old iPhone 5s, but after watching Apple’s video introductions and ads, I suddenly feel some sense of pride for my phone even though it’s a three-year old model. We don’t know how it works, but we’re pretty sure it has something to do with Jony Ive’s British accent and Apple’s cool videography.
And there you go. Not all of us buy iPhones for status symbol or because we’re blind followers, most of us buy it for practical reasons like the ones mentioned above.

Reasons Why People Don’t “Like” Iphones:
1. they’re expensive(of course it’s “apple”)
2. too much restrictions(itunes, torrents, hacks..)
3. better off if your online most of the time..
As a third world country, sapol na sapol tayo.
Kunsel says:
You call humongous top and bottom bezels beautiful?
EGGo says:
no. 7 accessories should only bought to apple stores.. no third party are allowed.. (not good for a consumer with a tight budget).
***for now it is the top notch in antutu benchmarking.. but who cares!!! (unless you are a rich kid or apple preacher).. sooner it will be surpassed again but half the price..
dorkymadafaku says:
top 1 reason. “apple”
GNELL says:
Kiss *ss apple fanboy. They made the hardware and software work together well because iOS is dumb proof. One thing iOS clearly lacks is the ability to give the user OPTIONS and CUSTOMIZABILITY.
0pasaload says:
‘Makes You Look Like “Mayaman”‘ should be number 1 on the list..haha
Rabbitkun says:
Number 1 requirement para maging climber.. Social climber.. hahaha, Pero seriously the only thing why they buy it kasi it is “Apple” wala nang ibang rason. If iPhone was created by a different company do you think na papansinin yan? For sure hindi.
Jay Roxas says:
Ang isa sa pinaka-ayoko sa iPhones, mahal siya. Ma-snatch ka, holdap, lipad ang 30k+. Maganda, oo naman, pero dahil mahal, nakakapraning mawala, masira, etc.
tonythexplorery says:
Only reasons 2 and 3 and 4 are correct and the rest e ewan. And for reason no. 3, yes na yes. Reason 4, Saying that iphone 7 is one of the best smartphones e depende na yan sa opinyon.
JessPH says:
I could not agree more. There’s a reason why apple products are priced at premium… because they are simply better than their competitors. The iOS ecosystem is topnotch. Other pros: Battery quality does not deteriorate. No bloatwares. More secured against hacks and viruses. No heat issues.
ex flare x user says:
1. its overrated.
2. its overpriced, therefore the local masses and the high society ppl are drooling over your pricey phone.

strangely, mga haters ang nagbasa at nagcomment pa sa post na to. cute nyo! hahaha!
not a fanboy, but I have an open mind to see these things:
restrictions = law / legality
price = technology / research + quality
*same price or even higher naman si Sammy, ndi nyo nirereklamo price. wala naman ng updates after a year or two.
*if ndi kaya bilhin, wag na natin ibash. oo walang mura dahil they won’t trade “customer experience” with affordability.
pero if short battery life ang ibabato nyo, I agree 100%! sana Apple can focus on innovating on batteries on their next one.

#3 is actually incorrect, or at least only partially correct Nexus devices are updated as long as they are capable. The 2013 Nexus 7 for example got the marshmallow update after 3 years. It’s the manufacturers like Samsung and HTC who only guarantee 18-24mo of updates. However there might be a break this year, since Nougat will be using a new OpenGL protocol that older CPU (2014 and below) wasn’t built to support. Basically, it’s more of Apple holding on to the past, and Android is too fast at moving on.

for years I’ve been using samsung galaxy (notes 1,3 and 4) I also hated apple products before and I have a lot of comments here to prove that. But recently, my wife bought the 6s plus and after weeks of using the phone, I myself can say that altough it is overpriced there is still a high chance that I will choose an iphone over the gnote phones in the future. I still hate apple by the way, but my macbook and iphone is pulling me on the opposite direction.

Joseph Jones Canangga says:
What i like most is its simplicity, even my mom can use it easily. One more thing, in iphone 7.. They only said its just water resistant, while samsung said their S7or 8 is waterproof. There are water tests wherein iphone7 beats samsung. The only con I could mainly think of is the price. Just my opinion though.
ross says:
well medyo totoo din naman, nga lang kaya ayaw ko na sa iPhone wala kasing dual sim, oo nga maraming updates pero walang downgrade naman un naman nakaka inis, at sa android pwede ang multiple acct.
