Every time a new iPhone is announced, you can expect it to receive negative comments mostly about the design, features, and expensive price tags especially in the Philippines. But why do people still buy iPhones despite its downsides? Here are six reasons.
Table of Contents
1. They’re beautiful devices.
We have to admit that Apple makes gorgeous smartphones through a combination of attractive design and premium materials. Even the four year old iPhone 5 and the plastic-clad iPhone 5c can still be considered attractive. Other smartphone manufacturers also took note of some of the iPhone 6’s design characteristics and implemented it in some of their own devices. In other words, iPhones are not just functional, they’re also ornamental.
2. They have the highest resale value of any smartphone.
iPhones are expensive, yes, but those who opt to purchase an iPhone can take solace that their new device can still be sold at a good price after a few years. Looking at OLX, the cheapest second hand iPhone 6 (16GB) listing I’ve seen as of writing has an asking price of Php15K, for a two-year old phone, that’s not bad. For last year’s iPhone 6s, the cheapest second hand listing I’ve seen is at Php21K. And if you can sell it for that much, that would cover a good chunk of your budget if you’re planning to upgrade.
3. iOS upgrades.
If you have an iPhone, you can be sure that it’ll receive iOS upgrades for years as long as Apple deems the hardware eligible. One perfect example is the iPhone 5 which debuted with iOS 6 in 2012. Four years later, it is still eligible for iOS 10. Compare that to a Nexus device with only two years of guaranteed Android version updates.
4. One of the best-performing handsets in the market.
Say what you want about more CPU cores and bigger RAM, but Apple’s iPhone 7 has recently set a record-breaking score on AnTuTu with their new A10 Fusion chip and 2GB RAM, surpassing its Android rivals. This is proof that Apple really knows how to make hardware and software work together to provide one of the best smartphone experiences in the market.
5. They get lots of love from accessory makers.
When a new iPhone is released in the market, expect tons of accessories ranging from cases, to cables, to power packs, to be available soon. That is because: 1. iPhones are popular, and 2. Apple only produces a couple of models every year which makes it more feasible for manufacturers.
6. Apple knows how to make you like its products.
It’s been said before, Apple is a master when it comes to marketing its products. They can still make you like it even if the “new” features are not really new or removed some important features like the headphone jack. I’m currently using an old iPhone 5s, but after watching Apple’s video introductions and ads, I suddenly feel some sense of pride for my phone even though it’s a three-year old model. We don’t know how it works, but we’re pretty sure it has something to do with Jony Ive’s British accent and Apple’s cool videography.
And there you go. Not all of us buy iPhones for status symbol or because we’re blind followers, most of us buy it for practical reasons like the ones mentioned above.
I was an android user for many years….and believe me, IBA ANG APPLE PRODUCTS!
I’m still an apple fan boy…
well medyo totoo din naman, nga lang kaya ayaw ko na sa iPhone wala kasing dual sim, oo nga maraming updates pero walang downgrade naman un naman nakaka inis, at sa android pwede ang multiple acct.
What i like most is its simplicity, even my mom can use it easily. One more thing, in iphone 7.. They only said its just water resistant, while samsung said their S7or 8 is waterproof. There are water tests wherein iphone7 beats samsung. The only con I could mainly think of is the price. Just my opinion though.
