7 Best Features of the Sony Xperia XZ2

Sony has officially announced its new flagship smartphone called the XZ2, and it’s a rework from the ground up as the Japanese company reintroduced its flagship line with a new design contrary to the usual box-y aesthetic they posses. We run down some of the best features that make it stand out against the competition.

All-new design

Sony takes pride of the craftsmanship that have taken place to create the new design for the XZ2 and its smaller XZ2 Compact sibling. Still adhering to the Sony design philosophy, the company made notable changes to its trademark omnibalance design including creating a more curved back that fits the hand, a fluid 3D glass surface that creates a seamless shape, and new color options that are inspired by light. The fingerprint scanner is now separated from the  placed at the middle of the back of the device for ergonomics, while the camera is placed near-center to achieve a sense of capturing photos like how you do with normal cameras.

Snapdragon 845

Powering the XZ2 is a newly-released chip from Qualcomm, and the Snapdragon 845 is no chip to miss. It offers not only a CPU and GPU inside, but has dedicated processes for display and imaging (Spectra 280 Image Signal Processor) and sophisticated, on-device artificial intelligence processing (Hexagon 645 Digital Signal Processor). Combined with a 4GB RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo on board, the SD845 can do lots of tasks at hand.

18:9 HDR display

The Xperia XZ2 joins the ever-growing trend of smartphones offering the new 18:9 aspect ratio display, and it does not come with just that as its screen also featured HDR for wider color gamut, better contrast, and more clarity whatever show you watch. The XZ2 also offers an X-Reality feature that easily converts videos to HDR as you watch them, and the screen is still made with Sony’s TRILUMINOS technology for 30% more color saturation compared to other displays.

4K HDR recording and Full HD Super Slow-Mo

Several top smartphones already offer 4K video recording, but how about 4K combined with HDR? Sony was able to stack 4K HDR video recording inside the XZ2, which enables the user to capture reality with more contrast, detail and near true to life colors. Moreover, the 19-megapixel Motion eye rear camera is capable of capturing super slow-motion videos at 960 frames per second… in Full HD resultion.

Improved Audio capabilities

Xperias are known to possess good audioquality thanks to Sony’s own ClearAudio+ technolgy and stereo speakers found with the XZ1, but the XZ2 has taken it up a notch with a built-in DSEE HX audio chip that enables you to listen to high-resolution audio and S-Force Front Surround system to put you in the middle of the music. LDAC is also available with the Sony Xperia XZ2, and it can improve your wireless experience as it’s an enhanced Bluetooth technology that can handle near High-Resolution Audio.

Qi Wireless charging

Sony further makes the Xperia XZ2 wire-free as it is the first of the company’s flagships to offer Qi wireless charging, which could be done by either Sony’s own wireless fock for the phone or a variety of Qi wireless chargers out in the market.

Water resistance

Lastly, Sony’s trademark water-resistance capabilities are still present as the XZ2 offers a combination of IP65 and IP68 Water Resistance on their phone. The company was one of the first companies who offered water resistance in flagship smartphones, beginning with the Sony Xperia Z (incidentally codenamed Yuga) in 2013.
