Facebook has just announced that it is no longer allowing Huawei to pre-install its apps on Huawei devices.
According to a report by Reuters, customers who currently own Huawei devices will still be able to use Facebook apps and receive updates. Future Huawei smartphones that have not yet left the factory, however, will no longer have Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram pre-installed. This is the latest hurdle that Huawei is facing, due to the ban imposed on the company by the US government. The US government’s suspension was lifted for 90 days, with it expiring in August. Google was the first company to cut business ties with Huawei when the suspension was first announced.
Facebook did note that consumers who buy current Huawei phone models without Facebook pre-installed can still download the app through the Google Playstore. However, unless things change between Huawei and the US government, future Huawei devices will not be able to access the Google Playstore and other Google apps.
Huawei has declined to comment on the Facebook suspension.
