Huawei has released new and impressive smartphones for the high-end category in the past few months namely, the Huawei P9, Huawei Mate S, and the Nexus 6P. But for those looking at the mid-range space, the company is offering the Huawei GR5. Check out what this phone has to offer in the our review below.
Design and Construction
The Huawei GR5 is basically a phablet given its display size of 5.5-inches. Placed above it are the 5 megapixel front camera, sensors, earpiece, and LED notifications light. Down below is the Huawei branding.
On the left we have a couple of slots for two SIM cards and a microSD card. On the right are the volume rocker and the power/lock button.
Up top are the microphone and headset jack, while at the bottom are the microUSB port, and holes for the microphone (left) and loudspeaker (right).
Turning it on its back and you will see the 13 megapixel camera, LED flash, and Fingerprint scanner.
On hand, the GR5 feels premium thanks to its brushed metal back that feels solid and cool to the touch. It’s not all metal though as the top and bottom part are made of plastic with a dotted finish. The frame for the display is also plastic with a glossy finish.
For a smartphone with a large display, the GR5 is easy to hold and grip. It has a decent heft to it but feels sturdy and well-made. Design-wise, it looks like your typical mid-ranger. The protruding camera at the back doesn’t help either. On the bright side, the gold treatment makes it an attractive device.
