Huawei is bolstering its budget offerings in 2019 with the introduction of the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019. It has a large 6.09-inch Dewdrop display, a quad-core chipset, Android 9 Pie, and a price tag of under PHP 7K. Can Huawei heat up the entry-level segment with this phone? Find out in our review.

The Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 is basically the successor of the Y6 2018. As a new device, it comes with design improvements which include the Dewdrop screen. It’s basically a tiny notch design implemented on top of the 6.09-inch display. I find the bezels thick but not really a serious issue.
Going back to the notch, it houses 8MP camera. Placed above it in the bezel are the earpiece, sensors, LED flash, and LED for notifications. Found at the bottom by the chin is the Huawei branding.
On the left is the tray for the dual nano SIM cards and dedicated slot for the microSD card, which is good for those who want expandable storage without compromise.
On the right are the volume and power/lock buttons. They’re plastic, yet clicky and firm.
Up top are the 3.5mm audio port and secondary microphone.
Down below are the main microphone, microUSB port, and loudspeaker.
Flip it on its back and you will see the 13MP camera along with the LED flash and Huawei branding.
The Huawei Y6 Pro 2019’s body is mostly plastic but still, have a decent heft to it. The back panel curves towards the edges and almost seamlessly blends to the rounded frames. Although it measures 8.0mm thick, it feels thin in the hands and easy to hold. Although navigating the UI would be more comfortable with two hands.
Given the materials used, ‘premium’ is not the word I would use to describe the Y6 Pro 2019, although Huawei clearly made attempts to make it look like so, and I think they’ve done a good job. The back panel is of clear, glossy plastic which to give off an impression that it is made of glass, while the finish underneath is sprayed with fine particles that reflect light depending on the angle. If I were to describe the Y6 Pro 2019, I’d say that it looks youthful, but at the same time, it’s well-built despite the plastic body.
As mentioned earlier, the Y6 Pro 2019 has a 6.09-inch screen (with screen protector pre-installed) with HD+ resolution or 1560 x 720. At 282ppi, it’s not pixel-packed but good enough for most tasks like browsing your social media accounts or gaming. It’s limiting though when it comes to watching videos.
Colors are good although the blacks are not deep enough especially if you’re accustomed to AMOLED screens. It has decent viewing angles and is bright enough to be used outdoors. If you’re not fond of the notch, there’s an option to hide it inside settings.
When it comes to audio, I like the speaker as it is loud and crisp. Not exactly top-notch and doesn’t have bass, but good enough to fill a small room audible enough to for videos and gaming.
The Y6 Pro has a 13MP AF rear camera with F1.8 aperture and an 8MP FF front camera. Features are limited though which includes Beauty, HDR, Panorama, and Pro mode.
I was not expecting a lot when it comes to image quality produced but I was surprised that it was able to produce sharp and highly-detailed photos with punchy colors especially in bright conditions. It’s fairly quick as well and had no problems focusing. The front camera, on the other hand, can produce decent photos. It doesn’t have autofocus but has face tracking to make sure that you’re selfies are on point.
Its weakness though is low-light as shots produced will come out muddy with lots of noise. Selfies are fine though thanks to the front-facing LED flash which Huawei calls the Selfie Toning Flash 2.0.
As for video recording, the Y6 Pro 2019 can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps in 3GP format. The colors are good, decent details, although lacking in dynamic range. There’s no video stabilization as well so it’s prone to shakes. Watch the sample below.
Running the software is EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. It has a refreshed interface compared to EMUI 8. It’s pretty much straight forward and easy to navigate. The usual Huawei apps like Phone Manager, Theme Store, HiCare, and AppGallery are still here.
It has features like Digital Balance which shows your phone activity, Ride mode which disables Bluetooth and headset so calls will be automatically answered with voice or SMS messages, and Party mode which syncs music playback across phones on the same WiFi network.
There are some apps pre-installed like Facebook, Messenger, Netflix, Camera 360, Lazada, Kwai, and Booking. These can be uninstalled though which is good. When it comes to storage, there’s only 32GB on board with 25.38GB as usable. Good thing you can expand it using a microSD card via its dedicated slot.
Powering the Y6 Pro 2019 is a MediaTek MT6761 clocked at 2.0GHz, PowerVR Rogue GE8300 GPU, and 3GB of RAM. So far it is capable of running basic tasks smoothly. We had no problems running our favorite social media and chat apps. Check out the benchmark scores below:
Gaming shouldn’t be an issue as well if you keep graphics settings from low to mid to keep the frame rates up. We played Mobile Legends (High), PUBG Mobile (Mid), and Brawl Stars, and so far they’re running well but you’ll get that occasional frame drops in action-packed scenarios.
You have the basic connectivity features in the Y6 Pro 2019. There’s 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, and built-in FM radio antenna. It connects to mobile data quickly while calls are loud and clear. What could probably the disadvantage of this phone is the lack of the fingerprint scanner and a gyroscope.
Battery life is good though despite the 3,020mAh battery. We’re getting 8 to 9 hours of use mostly running social media apps connected on WiFi. PC Mark’s battery test got us 11 hours and 55 minutes, while our video loop test yielded 14 hours and 13 minutes of continuous playback.
Conclusion
The Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 is aimed at budget-conscious customers who are looking for a good-looking phone with a large display, decent performance, good cameras, long battery life, and Android Pie. At PHP 6,990USD 119INR 10,098EUR 113CNY 867, it’s reasonably priced and can compete with other smartphones in the same class. So to answer the question at the start of this article, yes, the Y6 Pro 2019 can certainly heat up the entry-level segment some more.

but yeah, it's price is reasonable, no more things to expect, its a killer Entry-level device compare to others. will buy soon <3
