Canalys’ latest sell-in estimates show that Apple devices dominated 2024’s smartphone sales.
The standard iPhone 15 took the top spot as the most shipped smartphone last year. It had 3% share of the estimated 1.22 billion global smartphone shipments in 2024. The latest iPhone 16 Pro Max followed second, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max came in third.

Interestingly, a couple of Samsung’s entry-level devices made it to the list (again). The Galaxy A15 and its 5G variant secured the fourth and eighth spots, respectively.
This was the same case from 2023 with the Galaxy A14 and A14 5G. However, this time around, the Galaxy S24 Ultra replaces the Galaxy A54 5G in the ninth spot.
Despite its age, the iPhone 13 (released from 2021) managed to secure the tenth spot, with 1.5% share of the total global smartphone shipments.
Meanwhile, Canalys also reported that the global smartphone market soared 7% in 2024, which has been “…A comeback year for the smartphone industry, delivering the highest annual global shipment volume post-pandemic,” said Canalys analyst Runar Bjørhovde.
Apparently, Apple and Samsung remained the major players. While they both get 18% of market share in the entirety of 2024, both saw a 1% decline in shipments.
Xiaomi ranked third with 14% share and Transsion at fourth place with 9% share. Both companies saw the strongest annual growth at 15%. Oppo rounded up the top five with an 8% market share.
