Local HTC One S gets 1.7GHz S3 and not 1.5GHz S4

After repeated calls, emails and store visits, we’ve independently verified that the HTC One S that was released in the Philippines last week runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1.7GHz and not the Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz.

When HTC Philippines finally launched the HTC One S (see our review here) with a suggested retail price of Php26,990USD 460INR 38,990EUR 438CNY 3,349, they told us differently.

I personally interviewed the Country Manager regarding the reason about the Snapdragon S4 to S3 switch and also referred to their official press release. Both sources gave me one answer — the local HTC One S will have a SnapDragon S4 1.5GHz.

However, we’ve been getting reports from customers that the units they see in retail stores were running a SnapDragon S3 1.7GHz processor.

I sent out an email to HTC’s local reps for clarification and also went to stores yesterday to inspect the units.

It turns out the ones being distributed in stores is the HTC One S running a Snapdragon S3 1.7GHz. This morning, I talked to their local rep and got a partial confirmation that the units really have a Snapdragon S3 in them and not an S4.

We are waiting for their official statement on this and they promised to send us a copy once it’s ready.

  1. Well, other bloggers were also informed it was an S4. A quick Google search reveals that.

  2. confirmed na abe. nagreply na si mr. javier, S3 nga. :(

  3. I really couldn’t care less but what the fuck HTC. You could’ve at least sell the One S at a cheaper price. Everyone can get the One X though… At just 1k more. Other retailers tend to sell the One S at a more expensive price than the One X.

  4. Sayang, I was hoping to buy the phone. parang HTC Sensation lang siya, oveclock lang ang cpu and nadagdagan ng internal memory, advantage lang ng sensation, may removable battery and micro SD, regular sim din siya. I wonder if htc one s being sold at online store is the same with the official stores here in the philippines.

  5. isn’t that false advertising???

  6. Gustong isahan ng htc ang mga consumers… Why buy an old processor in a new phone?

  7. Does this batch of the HTC One S no longer have the alleged chipping issue on the black [MAO] one?

  8. i went to widget city yesterday to buy a one x, there i saw that what they are selling is the S4 1.5ghz One S. they also have the 1.5ghz s4 One X/ the At&t Version.

  9. i think pinalitan nila ung processor because most of the review mas nagustuhan ang performance ng one s because of krait s4 processor it doesnt heat up under much load compared to tegra 3 and the battery efficiency is way better tingin ko ng nmn sana nmn s4 lahat because some of the sales lady is not familiar with the item that they are selling eh..

  10. paano ba malalaman kung 1.7 S3 or 1.5 S4? i’m planning to buy it next week after “payday”. i wanna get value for my money :)

  11. amf talaga yung nabili one s villec2 version,,,, iwant complete refund from HTC,,, haizt sana nag xperia ion nalang ako kung laam ko lang na dito yung krait version… kaya pala nag taka ako bakit parang overclocked yung cpu tatuwa pa ko kasi sabi mas mabilis yun pala amf S3 tsk tsk tsk….
