Note: Devices listed are those available in the Philippine market from January 1, 2018 – June 30, 2018. Recently announced and soon to be released phones were excluded. Reviews and launch articles are linked via headers.
The Vivo Y81 is one of the earliest devices to get released locally that sports MediaTek’s newest Helio P22 chipset. Vivo’s touting the phone’s AI-beauty features and Face unlock technology. It’s not too shabby either with its 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.
Hauwei’s Honor sub-brand only recently entered the Philippine market, despite their fame overseas and in their homeland. Although their devices quickly gained traction locally thanks to competitive pricing and specs. One of those hot contenders is the Honor 9 Lite, a phone sporting mid-range internals for a budget price tag.
One of Xiaomi’s budget Android One devices. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is a perfect choice for those looking to have Stock Android experience for under Php 10k. That’s not all it has to offer though, as it has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and USB Type-C.
A strong contender in this segment and a crowd favorite. The Max Pro M1 is one of the most anticipated phones in the market for the first-half of 2018. Sporting strong internals and a long battery life, the device is a solid choice for people who want power and longevity but are on a budget.
The OPPO A83 actually has three variants — one with 4GB RAM, one with 3GB, and one with 2GB. Performance differences will be minimal if you only jump from 1GB to the other. It has been regarded as one of the best budget smartphones during its release in the Philippine market. That still holds true today, even though it now has stronger competition. We’re currently holding a giveaway for the OPPO A83 (2GB), check out the details here.
The Redmi S2 is Xiaomi’s non-Android One competitor for the budget segment. It sports almost the same specs as its Mi A1 sibling but for a lower price tag.
The OPPO A83’s more affordable sibling. The A71 (2018) has its shortcomings but is still a worthy contender in its price point, offering good performance, a long battery life, and AI beautification.
A very solid contender for the budget market. The Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes equipped with the very reliable Snapdragon 425 and a 4,000mAh battery. Not only that, it has generous RAM (3GB) and Internal storage (32GB) for its price.
Arguably one of the strongest competitor in the lower spectrum of the budget segment. The Huawei Y6 (2018) is a solid choice for anyone looking to have a good performing device with respectable cameras, display, and face unlock features.
And that’s a wrap for the Top contenders in the budget segment for mid-2018. Be sure to stay tuned for the list of the other price segments!
