Alienware has just upgraded its flagship 17-inch gaming laptops, the Alienware m17 R5 and the Alienware x17 R2, by outfitting both with the industry’s first 480Hz refresh rate display.
Both laptops will be available with Full HD 1080p displays with a refresh rate of 480Hz and a response time of 3ms. Making it one of the fastest screens on a gaming laptop today.
However, the 480Hz display doesn’t come as standard as it will be a USD 300 upgrade over the base 165Hz panel outfitted.
The Alienware m17 R5 will also come with a new AMD Advantage model. This means that it will support both an AMD CPU and GPU. This also means that it would come with AMD SmartShift to help shift power where it may be optimized for either gaming or content creation.
The new AMD Advantage model of the m17 R5 will come with either the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H or the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor. For graphics, it is now configurable with an AMD Radeon RX 6700M or an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT.
The Alienware x17 R2 can also be configured with the new 480Hz display. But on the other hand, can only be outfitted with an Intel CPU and NVIDIA GPU with up to the 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900HK and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.
Both the m17 R5 and x17 R2 can be configured with up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM, 4TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage, and even an optional CherryMX ultra-low-profile mechanical keyboard.
If your priority is a crisper display, then both models can also be configured with a 4K display but with its refresh rate capped at only 120Hz.
To outfit both laptops with the new 480Hz display, you’ll be looking at a starting price of USD 2,299.99 for the Alienware m17 R5 and USD 2,549.99 for the Alienware x17 R2.
