In a Medium blogpost, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the cancellation of the iPhone SE 4 is actually due to concerns about the performance of Apple’s planned in-house baseband chip that they were going to introduce on the SE 4.

Kuo says that there are concerns that the in-house chip “may not be up to par with Qualcomm’s,” causing Apple to reportedly cancel the production of the iPhone SE 4 altogether.

According to iPhone Wiki, the baseband chipset is basically what manages all the functions of the iPhone which require a cellular antenna.

In turn, Kuo says that the cancellation of Apple’s budget device is a “big win” for chip manufacturer Qualcomm, adding that it increases the chances of Qualcomm remaining the exclusive supplier of baseband chips for the 2024 series of iPhones or the iPhone 16.

The iPhone SE 4 would have been the fourth iteration in Apple’s iPhone SE line, with the iPhone SE 2022 with the A15 Bionic chip being the latest version of the device.
