Apple Watch Series 4, Intel 15” MacBook Pro are now ‘vintage’

Listen to article

Apple has kicked off the new year by updating its list of vintage and obsolete products, with a couple of notable additions. Among them: the Apple Watch Series 4 and the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro, one of the last Intel-powered Macs released by the company.

The move, effective immediately, applies to all Series 4 models, including aluminum and stainless-steel versions in both 40mm and 44mm sizes.

Also added to the vintage list is the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro, the last of its size before being replaced by the 16-inch model later that same year.

While this was one of the final Intel-based Macs from Apple, it remains capable of running the latest macOS updates. With watchOS 11 rolling out this year, Series 4 has received its final software update (watchOS 10), marking the end of its software support.

For those who didn’t know, Apple designates a product “vintage” when it has been out of circulation for over five years, and “obsolete” once it’s been discontinued for seven years.

Vintage products are still eligible for repair if parts are available, while obsolete products are not.
