DotA 2 International tournament is scheduled to start next week and the prize pool has reached a record of Php787USD 13INR 1,137EUR 13CNY 98 million as of press time.
This is the highest prize pool for DotA 2 since the international tournament started several years ago. This amount could still balloon since there’s still a week left before the tourney starts.
The prize used to be funded only by Valve but this has been changed to include pledges from DotA fans via digital “compendium” which fans could purchase to follow the event and contribute to the prize pool. Last year, the prize pool reached Php491USD 8INR 709EUR 8CNY 61 million with the champion, team Newbee, raking in Php225USD 4INR 325EUR 4CNY 28 million.
A total of 16 teams are set to battle against each other starting August 3 to August 8. The tournament will be held at Seattle, WA in the United States.
