DSWD pushes digital shift to speed up social services

Listen to article

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) highlighted how its move to digital systems and stronger partnerships with NGOs has helped speed up social protection programs across the country.

In an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao shared that the agency’s digital shift, especially through the DSWD HELPS platform, made transactions faster and more convenient for the public. Under Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the agency streamlined processes like registration, licensing, and accreditation for social welfare groups.

The agency also improved the processing of minor travel abroad permits, making it easier and quicker for families while keeping child safety a priority. Clients are encouraged to go online instead of lining up physically for transactions.

Dumlao added that the DSWD continues to recognize outstanding NGO and private partners, saying collaboration is key in reaching more poor and vulnerable communities.
