Our trusted microSD cards are getting a new marking, especially for mobile use to guide consumers which card is suited for their Android smartphone.

The new symbol is designed to indicate running app performance. The new Application Performance Class logo will be used on microSD cards that offer minimum recommended random and sequential performance speeds to meet execution time requirements to run Android apps well.
The SD Association has introduced its first App Performance level — App Performance Class 1 or A1. The SDA will introduce higher levels as the market evolves. MicroSD memory cards that display the A1 symbol have or surpass the following recommended speeds:
- Random Read Input-Output access Per Second (IOPS) of 1500
- Write IOPS of 500
- Sustained Sequential performance of 10MB/s.
So, when buying a new microSD card soon, look for the A1 logo if you’ll be using it for adoptable storage on your compatible Android phone.
