Google is quietly expanding Gemini’s split-screen multitasking feature beyond foldables and tablets, bringing it to select non-foldable Pixel devices. First spotted on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the feature is tied to a beta release of the Google app.

Originally designed for larger-screen Android devices like the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Samsung Galaxy Z series, this update now allows regular smartphones to run Gemini alongside another app. To activate it, users simply drag the Gemini bar upward while an app is open, and the screen will split in half. On foldables, the split can still be arranged side-by-side, but on standard phones, it stacks vertically.
For now, rollout is limited. Reports indicate that even newer hardware like the Pixel 10 Pro XL doesn’t have the feature yet, while older models like the Pixel 6 Pro are left waiting unless enrolled in the beta.
While Android has had native split-screen since Nougat (2016), Google’s integration with Gemini offers a faster shortcut for multitasking. Whether it’s chatting with Gemini while browsing or managing tasks across apps, this small tweak could make split-screen more appealing for everyday Pixel users.
