GrabPay users in the Philippines now have the option to top up their wallets using cryptocurrency such as BTC, ETH, and stablecoins. This new feature was quietly rolled out through a recent update on the Grab app.
According to a recent in-app notification, the top-up service is done in partnership with local crypto exchange PDAX. GrabPay says it remains compliant with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) regulations, meaning crypto-related transactions are still subject to local financial laws.
This move adds another use case for crypto in everyday payments, letting users convert digital assets into pesos for use within the Grab ecosystem. Grab also mentions users can earn cashback and rewards when topping up through this method.
Only users who have completed their KYC (Know Your Customer) verification can access this feature.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind. Grab’s terms highlight the risks tied to crypto, including price volatility. The company also says it is not liable for losses caused by fluctuations in value or user mistakes, such as sending to the wrong wallet address.
