Instagram Lite quietly launched on Android

Instagram did a bit of a ninja move today as they launched a lite version of their app, aptly named Instagram Lite. The size of the app is only 1/55th of the original, which is 573kb compared to 32MB.

The app has the basic functions of Instagram namely it allows users to filter and post photos to the feed or stories, and even browse the Explore page. The app lacks the option to share videos though or direct message friends. It’s perfect for old mobile devices or those with low memory. It also now joins a set of apps following the “lite” trends such as Facebook Lite. You can get the app here.
