Google is now starting the merge of its two communication apps, Google Meet and Duo, to simplify communication in the Google ecosystem which will go head to head with Zoom as its competitor.
Based on TechCrunch, Google will be releasing an update for the Duo app on both Android and iOS and it’ll feature a new Meet logo and there’s also a new notification that will explain the whole merger thing.
Don’t expect any new major updates for this new Meet app but what Duo has now are Google Meet’s meeting features, but take note that the user will need a Google account to use these meeting features.

A new Google Meet icon and app name will be revealed this coming September. For now, a user will get the updated version of the Google Meet app (the former Google Duo) but now has video calls and other meeting features.
For those using the Google Meet (original) app, they can still continue to use it but they won’t be able to use the new ad hoc calling capabilities. Google said that ‘We’ll inform you when you should migrate to the new app experience’, so let’s just wait for their next news on when to migrate to the all-new Google Meet.
