Meta tests subscription features on Instagram

Listen to article

Meta is testing a new subscription tier for Instagram that could give users more control and exclusive features on the platform.

The paid option, currently being tested in select countries, includes features such as the ability to view Stories discreetly, even after they disappear from the usual 24-hour window. Subscribers may also get added controls over who can see their Stories, offering more privacy and customization.

Meta confirmed that the feature is being rolled out in a limited number of markets, though it has not officially listed all locations. Reports suggest the test includes countries like Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines, with pricing estimated at around $2 per month.

The move signals Meta’s continued push toward subscription-based features, following earlier launches of ad-free paid versions of its platforms in some regions.

It also puts Instagram alongside other social media apps that already offer premium tiers, as platforms explore new ways to generate revenue beyond advertising.

For now, the subscription remains in testing, and there is no confirmation on when or if it will be rolled out globally.
