Listen to article

Samsung has had the Galaxy line of smartphones for years now. The name encompasses every market segment from budget, entry level phones to mid-range and high-end, premium models.

However, it seems that such branding strategy hinders its dominance in the premium segment. This is according to a new report from South Korea’s E-Today.

Although Samsung typically leads in annual smartphone shipments, Apple dominates the premium market.

That is why Samsung might be considering a new branding scheme for its Android smartphones in addition to the Galaxy brand.

In theory, by bringing in a new premium brand, it could give Samsung a much-needed boost to make its premium smartphones more enticing for consumers.

Currently, the reports don’t mention what exactly Samsung plans to do. Whether it’s a new series within the company or an entirely different company remains to be seen.

If Samsung would go for the latter, they could end up mimicking other Chinese brands with the likes of OPPO, vivo, realme, and OnePlus; Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO; and Huawei and Honor, among others.
